Re: Thoughts on my wiring schematic?
Would it be better to have the fuse in the middle of the pack, that way if there is a short circuit, your battery is immediately split into +365/2 and -365/2.

Re: Toyota / Lexus useful bits
"I dont yet have Prius transaxle at home, so i cant test my principle, but i can tell you Prius/Auris/Yaris inverter voltage sensor goes up to some 400Vdc on the battery side. 12V DCDC converter sadly stops giving 14V at 315Vdc upper limit. I succesfully revved Leaf motor at 200V up to 8000rpm....

Re: Toyota / Lexus useful bits
"There is a HUGE abundance on Prius parts available and increasingly Camry hybrid too. These are both FWD transverse motors obviously so would make a logical choice for FWD conversions (or possibly RWD transverse setups like the MR2). My question is whether the internal gearing arrangements pre...

Re: BMW CAN Messaging
JB, Since you are on a BMW roll, wonder if you have thought about the fuel efficiency meter. Equation is something like: fuel efficiency.PNG cheers. so just need car speed, and manufacture CAN message for MAF, -which becomes the inverse of say battery energy consumed per km. you have probably alread...

scan0001.jpg Here is the schematic for a Toyota Camry Hybrid AVV50L/R. it has DIN instead of ETI and DOUT instead of ITE So pins are: 1 - CLK 2 - DIN (data from HV ECU to compressor) 3 - DOUT (feedback from compressor to HV ECU) 4 - STBI 5 - GND 6 - 12V (IG1), via 7.5A fuse. Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking
Answered my own question, according to Oakridge 2010 Prius evaluation, page 6: Capture1.JPG Prius Generation 3 Inverter: Generator output can be up to 42kW , therefore this should be able to drive my Prius Gen 2 50kW motor with enough voltage. Anyway, if it is a limitation, i will work out a way to ...

Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking
Hi All, In a few weeks time i hope to connect my Prius V3 to a Prius V2 transaxle. The easy way is to connect MG2 the motor to the Inverter MG1 and MG1 generator to the inverter MG2. Does anyone know the power limitations on these two MG1 and MG2 inverter bridges? IF there is too much limitation i w...

Hi JB / Damien, you are doing a most wonderful thing helping us access reverse engineering stuff. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.png)
I am very thankful for your help. Sorry to read about the two heart attacks kind regards johnspark.

I think the concept is novel, but i would want to use a relay with a second contact to create a simple circuit to prevent any other mode of operation for safety reasons.

Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking
At 6006 rpm,
gear losses are: 1645.3W (25C)
motor rotor losses are: 472.8W
planetary gears,
gen rotor,
sun gear losses are: 264.9W (don't have gen on its own)
According to: pg 24 Evaluation of 2004 Toyota Prius Hybrid Drive System ORNL

Re: Multi-pole 48V motors
Johu i really like the concept. Could they lengthen it so it runs on 144v instead of 48 volts?, would make large reduction in fault currents, smaller wires etc. I also like one conductor per semiconductor, helps with switching poles. Note, the single conductor could be litz wire, either bought or ma...

Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking
That's exactly right, so that saves losses from the chain and gears. But as you state, will need to idle MG1 or drive with small amount of torque. So from my experiences, would set MG2 as master and MG1 as follower. So my idea is to use MG2 most of the time and MG1 only at the higher speeds where th...

Re: Prius Gen3 Inverter Hacking
Higher torque at higher speeds will be much more important, so that sounds better to just have batteries directly onto the HV bus (<= 500Vdc). I am only using the Gen 2 transaxle because it was the first one i got and would like to learn what I can from it first. I was also keen to reuse the Prius t...
