I love this project... if you ever get so adventurous as to drive it to Atlanta, let me know... I bet the car would get a lot of attention at Caffeine and Octane or even one of the drive electric week events we have here.

Re: GS 450h/rx450h/outlander which one to pick?

No, there is no starter motor per se in a Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive system. The MG1 "Motor Generator 1" is inside the transmission and either starts the combustion engine or generates power to send to the inverter/battery. The combustion motor provides power to MG1 or optionally power to...

Re: Dual BMW Hybrid packs?

This topic came up on another thread after I asked a question about running more than 6 modules in series for higher voltage. Some users are doing exactly what you are proposing, but the issue is tied to the BMW BMS configuration - you'll probably want to use SimpBMS on these to leverage BMW's facto...

Re: GS 450h/rx450h/outlander which one to pick?

It's an interesting prospect, but I'll elaborate a bit more on earlier comments: 1. Will you use the factory instrument cluster? If so, are the CAN messages that talk to it reverse engineered? If you have a whole car, you might be able to stand a chance of sniffing the CAN bus to reverse engineer th...

Re: Need Help: STM32 Trouble Programming [SOLVED]

I agree with Pete's assessment. I'm assuming that your MG1 stage's HW is not the cause since that was previously blinking. As such we should probably focus on making that stage work again before moving onto MG2 (though they should be functionally identical). I think we can isolate this to being the ...

Re: Need Help: STM32 Trouble Programming [SOLVED]

You should be getting two separate networks in your Wi-Fi list... each module is a unique network and you'll need to attach to them one at a time depending on weather or not you are configuring MG1 or MG2.

Re: Need Help: STM32 Trouble Programming [SOLVED]

For the Wi-Fi what happens if you swap the Olimex modules? Does the problem move with the module? The reason I ask is that there has been complaints that these modules are quite failure-prone. The web site is hosted within the module itself (and it negotiates the parameters with the STM32), so you s...

Re: Nissan Leaf EM61 motor on gen2 inverter?

Since the gen 3 inverters use the exact same EM57 motors as the gen 2 inverters, even without trying I would confidently say the answer is "yes". Dala the great has been freely swapping the gen 3 inverters to earlier cars and re-writing resolver offsets accordingly. Modern-day hot-rodding ...

The car looks really great in Tom's video and appears to be very well sorted!! It is a real inspiration for a low-cost conversion, especially since these New Beetles are abundant for not much money. I'd love a convertible EV, New Beetle, Cabrio, or Eos have all caught my eye.

I left out all the sockets, and just used the header, but didn't set it all the way down and carefully soldered in place... would this work for you? I'm using it in an inverter, so I can't tell if this would fit in the Tesla charger.

Re: Project RX8 , Prius gen2, Lexus transaxle to rwd

For much higher voltages the gen2 Prius inverter isn’t ideal as the main cap I think is only rated to 500v. Personally, I'm using a Gen 3 inverter. I have the smaller of the 2, so I should probably look to see if these are rated at 600V or 650V. I know there is a Auris/Yaris inverter in the smaller...

The further down you move in that list, the more decisions you have to make, and the more freedom there is the more ways are of doing things, so you can quickly end up with a system of which only one in the world exists! This is a really good point... it really is a decision tree with a series of t...

Re: Project demystification - make openinverter.org more accessible

I think many threads on the forum do a good job of describing one particular subsystem, but tying all the subsystems together seems to be shrouded in a certain amount of mystery. I'm thinking of a few examples that come to mind: 1. What is the relationship of the charger vs. the BMS in the battery a...
