Re: Subaru Legacy Estate (diesel)

I've been watching Damien's videos (evBMW) particularly the ones with the Lexus gearbox which is very similar to the Subaru XV "Crosstrek" 4wd box with 2 motor generators. The XV gearbox would be a much simpler solution than the Leaf motor and eliminates the original gearbox as well as th...

Re: State of Rex hacking?

Thanks Phate for the assistance, A further question, if you have run the battery right down low. Re the REX operation, When down to the lowest level as in 6% SOC indicated, where there is effectively no draw in the battery, Is the 65-70 mph available, OR is that only when both ghe REX and the batte...

Re: State of Rex hacking?

Can anyone confirm what an i3 can do in ReX run when the main pack is depleted.? Based on daily driving my 2017 i3 REx for the last 4ish years: Between 65-70mph on relatively flat ground with mild climate control usage. I believe it runs at the higher power mode above 56mph. As-delivered, US-market...

Re: VW Mild Hybrid Starter Alternator

Well, I wouldn't expect too much in the low end. I guess we don't have any torque numbers or graphs, but I am assuming it will be better in higher rpm. Can't you easily add the Honda hybrid motor to the Civic? I think from the CRZ? And yes, the electric superchargers would be nice. You could also b...

Re: VW Mild Hybrid Starter Alternator

Last year I was pondering whether one of these starter-generator systems could be fitted to my Subaru diesel. Nothing too sophisticated, just delivering power, regenerate or freewheel depending on throttle position and rpm. Compared to a full EV conversion it would be relatively cheap. The electron...

Re: AWD using Lexus/Toyota MGR (motor generator rear)

I think that not CAN log is vital here but communication between inverter and HV ECU (PMC), those 2 interfaces highlighted:image.png. Those are not CANs (Physical Layer is similar) but differential serial comms and you need sniffer to log the communication. BTW: has anyone logs from Toyota/Lexus wi...

Re: Subaru crosstrek phev transmission [SOLVED]

Weberauto just did a teardown on one of these, currently watching to see just how similar it is to the Toyota stuff we like to abuse repurpose around here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRMajgb8KiM Cliffnotes based on my understanding of the video: - MG1 and MG2 rotors/stators seem to be the same ...

Re: Subaru crosstrek phev transmission [SOLVED]

yes, I’ve been watching some online wrecking sites to find one in BC. I’m sure within the next year (hopefully) I’m hoping they end up able deliver 250 kw combined. they are quite bulky compared to the 4eat or 5mt transmission, so shall be interesting fitting one in the older subies. I'm starting t...

Re: L322 RR Vogue - The beached whale

It's to do with the amount of extra space that could be gained for batteries if I went that direction. With separate motors for each axle, the transfer case and prop shafts front and rear are removed, and that could double the space underneath for batteries. I'm continuing with the GS450H and the o...

Re: L322 RR Vogue - The beached whale

What sort of roadblocks did you run into to kill the plan to use the GS450H transmission with the original transfer case? Or was it just a case of having more room than expected to use a separate drive unit on each axle? I'm not quite at the "buy parts" stage yet, but I have an older Nissa...

Would it be possible to check this on the car? If it's as simple as "walk out to the driveway and poke the J1772 port with a multimeter" I'd be happy to help.

Re: Subaru crosstrek phev transmission [SOLVED]

Glad to see these pop up here. These transmissions are unfortunately not very common on the secondhand market yet, but I'm hoping to get my hands on one to poke around with and figure out how similar it is to the Toyota stuff that's pretty well documented here. This might be a niche, but I can't ima...
