Re: Prius transaxle vibrates/rattles, but doesn't rotate

Does anyone know to tell if the parking pawl is engaged, and if so how to disengage it?

Re: Prius transaxle vibrates/rattles, but doesn't rotate

OK, I tried both of those settings changes, no luck. I do not have the resolver connected yet. I am hoping to run it in open loop mode just to test that the parts are in good working order. Is it possible that there's some mechanical obstruction, or does there exist any locking system to prevent it ...

Prius transaxle vibrates/rattles, but doesn't rotate

My setup is Gen3 Prius inverter, vc1 board, Gen2 transaxle, running only MG2. Battery is a ~50V e-bike battery, and I made a precharge circuit with a 100W bulb (I also tried a 55W bulb). I have been fiddling with the fslipspnt and ampnom values, initially low values, but also pushing the latter as h...

Re: Prius Gen 3 Inverter Logic Board Support Thread

So I pressed on ahead, regardless of the inability to detect a whining sound, as described above. I tried connecting my 48V e-bike battery (54V when fully charged) up through the precharge circuit. When connecting the battery I don't see any flash in the 100W filament bulb at all. Looking at the tim...

Re: Prius Gen 3 Inverter Logic Board Support Thread

I'm up to the step "First Run (PWM verify)" on the wiki guide https://openinverter.org/wiki/Toyota_Prius_Gen3_Board#First_Run_.28PWM_verify.29 Unfortunately, when I click "Start inverter in manual mode" I don't hear any whine sound. There is a slight fizzing sound as soon as the ...

Bubbling/bulging on capacitor - Gen3 Prius Inverter

This is my first time attempting anything to do with electronics or EVs, so forgive me if this question is stupid. I finally managed to get my inverter casing split apart, and I noticed that the capacitor has this bubble on the surface. All other pictures of the insides of inverters have shown this ...

Re: A complete beginner setup

Thanks for these responses. What I perhaps failed to grasp before is that the MotorGenerator2 is much bigger than MG1, and should be OK to propel the car at decent speed. So it's not a catastrophe to only use one MG. With that in mind, I am hoping to use the Gen3 inverter, Gen2 transaxle, and Gen3 c...

Re: A complete beginner setup

Thanks for that advice and informative video. I was a bit confused by this statement: Gen3 controller exists in a two motor flavour which is good for using both motors in a Prius transaxle. Does that mean if I buy a Gen2 transaxle and Gen2 inverter (and consequently get the "Toyota Prius™ Gen2 ...

A complete beginner setup

I've been really wanting to build an EV for ages and until I'd seen Damien's videos I thought the best budget way was with a forklift motor mated to the transmission. Now I've been convinced that Toyota hybrid parts are the best way to go. I literally have no stuff at all. The most I've done is elec...
