Re: I think I CAN, I think I CAN...
Thanks for the documentation of your efforts. I have been wanting to dive into the CAN but so far am paralyzed. For instance, I'm not sure what files to download from https://github.com/collin80/SavvyCAN/releases/tag/continuous and what to do with them. I use a windows computer primarily and know no...

Re: Alta electric dirtbike OEM project
I bet the seller would know what bike it is for. But you brought up a good point. The throttle data is on its own CAN with the inverter. I'm not sure if it is CAN1 or CAN2 yet. Somehow the throttle position is "digitized" for the benefit of the OEM inverter. My throttle is a regular Domino...

Re: SavvyCAN Setup
I already have a Lawicel based CAN to usb adapter http://www.can232.com/?page_id=16
Is it safe to assume that it would be well worth the $100 spent to just go with the EVTVdue board instead of trying to cobble together lawicel and savvycan?

One of you must have posted the report on another thread, i don't know how else i could have landed upon it:) https://www.energy.gov/sites/prod/files/2014/03/f13/ape006_burress_2013_o.pdf Although search engines might have taken me to the HSG go cart, which links to the above... http://isopack.blogs...

Re: HSG - Hyundai/Kia
I was surprised to see each cable is just 6 strands of the motor winding wires crimped to a ring terminal. Does this limit the amps it can be force-fed?

20210415_164442.jpg The sine cosine sensor got here in 4 days via DHL. For some reason, DHL is sitting on the open inverter since April 1. Next step is to get it installed into the alta housing. I ordered some trigger magnets that go on the end of the motor shaft. They look the same but one is a hi...

I like how small it is but I weighed it at 12 kg. As I wait for my OI kit, I've scouted the lebowski route. Kiwifiat, do you want to build two lebowskis for fun and profit?

I'm going to get one to play with, sounds promising. Any advantage to get the newest model with the attached belt tensioner? not sure if people still use the grooved belt or switch to toothed belts or sprockets. north american option for the connector? https://www.ebay.com/itm/ASSEMBLED-WATERPROOF-1...

Re: Alta electric dirtbike OEM project
Yes so the issue is that the openinverter board supplies 5V for all generic rotor sensors. It wants sine waves in return centered around 1.65V. The problem is that the specific sensor you and I have chosen centers around 2.5V, so that has to be "conditioned" downward to feed johubrain its'...

Ok the ball is officially rolling with a tiny transatlantic cash transfer (order). :D Next up is ordering another encoder in case I don't figure out how to get the OEM working. The encoder disc I'll buy offers two options regarding analog sinusoidal outputs. I assume I want the one that has 4 wires ...

I'm working under the premise that the OEM mcu is hopelessly locked up. My jtag hacker friend explained that we dont have the proprietary bootloader to do anything with the mcu. I'm not too upset about losing the other systems like the display/dash and the accessory control module. If I can get the ...

Position sensor situation. I'm pretty sure I have an absolute angle position encoder that is configured for SSI output. It is located on the end of the shaft and the housing is 26 mm inside diameter. https://ams.com/documents/20143/36005/AS5134_BD000220_1-00.png/03309b5b-7edd-bd85-ae8a-5d2749bdaa27...

Re: Alta electric dirtbike OEM project
Hmm. It's a nice sensor, I'd be tempted to make it work. Openinverter will take an SPI encoder input, it would be worth finding the spec for this SSI output, hopefully there won't be too much of a change to the openinverter firmware to get them to talk nicely. Worst case, its a great enclosure to m...

Re: Alta electric dirtbike OEM project
Looking at the big picture for a moment, everything above the level of the row of opto-isolators is low voltage inputs and outputs that could be handled by the Johannes brain and V3 board. We would have PWM input flowing down into the igbts and feedback and error info flowing back up to the brain. E...

Yes, ideally I could fix or figure out why the components don't work. I had a volunteer try to communicate with the bike through the OEM data port. He couldn't get any response from the MCU either through CAN or (I think) JTAG. I have an OEM diagnostic laptop with the Alta program which is in part a...
