Re: Tesla Small Drive Unit (SDU) Gear Box Fluid leaked
The encoder cover sits over the 3ph leads. So it's possible that it could leak over them or enough that the fluid puddle will reach the leads. I had some pictures here. ... The O-Ring looks undamaged and clean. But! It does looked more squeezed into the groove at the bottom than in other places. Tho...

Re: Tesla Small Drive Unit (SDU) Gear Box Fluid leaked
Well, I was about to attach the inverter back to run the motor for a bit, but decided to check under the encoder cover again. And...a little more fluid came out. I suspect this is where the leak is. Because before doing the aforementioned bus motions to troubleshoot I wiped everything dry. Last time...

Re: Tesla Small Drive Unit (SDU) Gear Box Fluid leaked
I'd suggest way lower than 10psi if you decide to pressurize it. The oil will thin out a bunch when it gets warm and will leak out easier then. My suggestion is to drive it and check. Then if it seems good, check the oil level at 100, 1000, and 3000 miles. My biggest fear is that the gearbox fluid ...

Re: Tesla Small Drive Unit (SDU) Gear Box Fluid leaked
can you pressurise the gearbox side with some kind of bike pump, (would recommend less than 10psi or so) and squirt some soapy water around look for bubbles? Good thought. Question, anyway that I can pressurise with the fluid still in the gearbox? SDU only has a drain hole - no fill hole - fill via...

Re: Tesla Small Drive Unit (SDU) Gear Box Fluid leaked
Well this issue has returned.
Not sure what to do at this point other then buying new unit, which cost like $2k in my part of the world.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Those coolant bottles for electronics and battery look like came from the Chevy Bolt. I purchased one to use in my conversation too. Could you please share which connector you've used for the coolant level sensor? Thanks in advance.

Re: EV car conversion hardware
Folks.
Anybody knows a good latching switch with a momentary button combo, preferably 19mm round? Doesn't need to be lockable.
Trying to combine ignition switch and start button into one unit. The ignition switch needs to stay on whilst pressing the start button.

Re: Gen 3 Charger Cables gauge too BIG?
This would be my approach. To select the conductor size assuming - For US, AC current, 50A max. continuous current in a cable of no more than 3 current carrying conductors (ground is not a current carrying) and with ambient temp of no more than 30C. Multiply your max current by 125% factor. Then use...

Which year the car is from? As far as I've seen even North American Teslas have their cables marked in mm2.
Are you referring to the cable from the inlet to the on-board charging unit?

Re: BMW i3 CCS/charge port controller
Type 1 LIM does not lock Charge Inlet when AC Charging: -the switch in the charging handle is also the unlock trigger for the catch on the handle. Some EVSEs with tehered type 1s do not have any other way to stop charge. Good point. I have a separate button to stop the charge, but LIM also reports ...

LIM Type 2/EU for sale [SOLD]
Mint condition, but I believe it works fine. I only played with it in the garage, until realised that I need Type 1 version. I removed the terminating resistors (2x 60Ohm), so now you can put the LIM anywhere on the CANbus. I can confirm it's communicating. Price $100 + shipping. Shouldn't cost much...

Re: BMW i3 CCS/charge port controller
To close the loop. Speaking with @Shockazulu1 who used ZombieVCU + Type 1 LIM + Type 1 i3 charge port combo to successfully charge in the US. LIM does not lock the inlet on his vehicle during the AC charging either, but it does during the DC charging. Yet another difference for the Type 1 vehicles!?...

Re: BMW i3 CCS/charge port controller
So I tried both wiring versions per wiki without luck. - Lock pin#3 to ground or lock pin#3 connected to lock pin#4. I plugged in my Type2 LIM and it immediately detected the inlet lock correctly! Measuring voltages on the feedback leg 1B-16 I'm getting same voltage values but opposite polarities on...

Re: BMW i3 CCS/charge port controller
I got my Type1 LIM. Right away it started behaving and responding much more predictable. P/N: 61359380352 Question: For the Type 1 socket does the plug latch need to be commanded to lock, i.e. message sent? My LIM doesn't activate the latch nor when plug is inserted nor when charge completed. After ...

SDU drop in for sale
Hello.
Selling my SDU v6 drop-in board.
It's brand new.
I purchased 2x of these thinking I'll convert 2 cars, but reducing my scope to just one car.
I live in Northern California, USA.
Can ship for a little extra - it's quite light.
Asking $300.
Let me know.

Re: Sending Custom CAN messages from SDU openinverter board
Hello. Could somebody please give me a hint where am I going wrong here? In the attached screenshot WebUI reads motor temp = 15.09C and heatsink temp 20.09C, but on the receiving end of the CAN bus, I'm reading motor temp = 12.80C, heatsink temp = 20.21C. Both SDU and my teensy talk at 500k. This is...

Do you know if the LIM came out from the vehicle with CSS Type 1 or Type 2 socket? Apparently they are coded differently.

Re: Simp BMS
I'd like to verify something, please. I have 14 Tesla MS batteries in series - 5.3kWh, 232Ah each. None in parallel. When it comes to setting the battery pack capacity the firmware defaults to 100Ah. Is that a precautionary value since diy batteries aren't new so this to be left as-is or changing to...

Re: BMW i3 CCS/charge port controller
The connector from my CCS1 socket doesn't have a wire on 2B-6. And 2B-2 and 2B-6 are not joined inside of my LIM. Below is a schematic of what it looks like inside of LIM. So looks like if we have a none i3 socket, just jumping 2B-2 and 2B-6 will do the trick and no need for the external resistor. ...

Here's what I'm receiving on 0x3b4, decoded per my understanding. Looking back at my notes, before removing the resistor LIM did id the charger as Type 2 AC, but now doesn't. I have watchdog setup and LIM Alive counter on 0x272 does update, so the data is refreshing. Nothing plugged in to the charge...

Re: BMW i3 CCS/charge port controller
Oh so you have a Type 2 coded LIM, note the wiki states that the BMW I3 Type 2 does not have a resistance to ground. Try to remove the resistance to ground in the charge port to see if this allows it to operate as you would expect. As you would want the LIM to wake up correctly when the plug gets i...
