Re: Hyundai IoniQ 2020 HV battery pack

First, you need hardware that supports CAN-FD to talk to the battery natively, which the current hardware the project is using (LilyGo ESP32 T-CAN485 devboard) does not support. I don't have data either way, but are you certain about this requirement? CAN-FD is backwards compatible with CAN 2.0, an...

Re: Hyundai Kona powertrain components (PCAN)

Something happened! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4nDdb5fkbI Still a long way from anything usable in an EV conversion. First, there are a lot of ancillary modules connected. Second, I didn't capture it on video but the other two times I've turned the motor it has gone into uncontrolled runaway a...

Sorry @projectgus for the continued derailment of this thread No need to apologise! I think at the beginning it wasn't clear how different they would be, but now it seems like they're quite different. The moderators should have a function to actually split the thread, but maybe they won't have the ...

Using Cabana for CAN reverse engineering

After mentioning it on the Hyundai PCAN thread months ago, I've published this tool which converts CSV CAN log files (and optional videos) into a format which can be opened in comma.ai's Cabana reverse engineering tool: https://github.com/projectgus/make_cabana_route Compared to SavvyCAN, Cabana is ...

Re: Hyundai IoniQ 2020 HV battery pack

@elco was private messaging me about the Kona battery pack and brought up the crash SRS signal (pin 13, white and black.) I'd been ignoring this signal but it seems likely that it might need to be valid in order for the BMS to close contactors. (@maciek16c I don't know if the Santa Fe PHEV has this ...

Re: Hyundai IoniQ 2020 HV battery pack

@johu/other mods - is it possible to move the Ioniq 5 posts out into another thread, please? It seems increasingly like it's going to be a totally different control scheme, and it's going to be easier for everyone to follow if the discussions sit in separate threads.

Re: Hyundai Kona powertrain components (PCAN)

Do you by any chance have numbers for the voltage range and frequency range that feeds the motor ? Oops, I missed the email notification for this post but this morning I saw you had asked the same question on the AEVA forums and I've already replied to you there. I 100% support trying to get ...

Re: Hyundai Kona powertrain components (PCAN)

I was going to use an aftermarket controller due to the OEM one probably having many dozens of CANBUS inputs that would produce error codes if transplanted into another vehicle , however you appear to have broken this down very well. Have you identified how to turn off the enquiry mode from the con...

Probably means there's no termination on the BMU node of the bus, so you should terminate with 60 ohms on your CANdue node.

Re: Hyundai IoniQ 2020 HV battery pack

@projectgus this is a 800v architecture, yes although I believe the nominal voltage is considerably lower. The battery I just opened has 30 modules, which i believe means its a 72.6kWh, and is currently at 647.0V. Right, lotta volts! I think there is a decent chance that it was a fresh design rathe...

Re: Hyundai IoniQ 2020 HV battery pack

Interesting, cgalpin. The Ioniq 5 has the 600V traction pack and related HV systems, doesn't it? So it's possible it doesn't share a legacy with the Kona, earlier Ioniq, etc. Although at the same time I'd be surprised if it's completely different. For the Kona pack, if all the 12V is attached and th...

Re: Develop a QCA7000 board?

Flux is the key. Glad you got these OK, and powered up already! Good flux is extremely helpful, especially with these low volume parts sales that are often so-called 散新 "loose new" (ie production run leftovers). If they've been sitting around and not stored well, they can have a thin laye...

Re: Develop a QCA7000 board?

I'd been idly daydreaming about doing something like this, although I think I need to finish some other projects first. My particular daydream was an ESP32-S3 or C3 based board, it would be pretty straightforward to integrate the SPI interface as an ethernet driver in ESP-IDF. But plenty of di...

Re: Hyundai Kona powertrain components (PCAN)

Another small win, a friend who has another wrecked Kona lent me some parts including this EPCU control board (thanks Sam!) Powered on the bench with few other connections, one of the 3 CAN buses produces messages. Have guessed these are all coming from the VCU. Guessing the second PCAN bus connecti...

Re: Hyundai Kona powertrain components (PCAN)

Made a bit of other progress on the weekend (as well as getting distracted by the Charge Control Module, see the Hyundai CCS thread ). Re: Hyundai Kona CCS controller

Thanks @uhi22, that all makes sense. I was thinking that if AC charging works on the Ioniq with the CCM removed (as you documented), then the OBC must be doing all the J1772 logic for pulling down the 12V pilot, detecting the 12kHz PWM, etc. It would be weird to have that handled in two places on th...

Oh also, the microcontroller debug port CON3 on the board looks the same as the eval board debug pinout for this family of MCU: jtag-port.jpg ( Source document .) It looks like the same family of microcontrollers is used inside the Kona and Ioniq EPCU units. On some boards the exact same debug heade...

Nice work @uhi22, this is very exciting! You inspired me to dig out my Kona CCM module and power it up on the bench. The messages so far look the same as what you've documented. I guessed at a few more possible signals, based on the Kona DC fast charge log: https://github.com/projectgus/hyundai-kona...

Thanks Mike, you are totally correct. I've updated the first post. Also added the SBC ("shift by wire control module") to the list. That's another module under the dash which drives the electronic parking brake lock. it's unlikely to be needed in most conversions, but it has some connectio...

That's great, thanks for sharing it. I've been struggling to find a format I like for sharing this in-progress decoding work. What is your goal with the pack :) Good question... Hoping to use the battery modules with the OEM BMS and cooling functions. If also using the Kona VCU then hopefully this will mean the BMS is correctly signalling the OEM current limits, etc, which will be quite nice (even if we don't know exactly...

I've only had a quick look, but it seems like many messages are the same as the Kona. ...
