Prius Gen2 motor and inverter ideal voltage without boost converter

I have looked through the forum but haven't quite found what I am looking for. With the boost converter bypassed in the gen2 inverter which is powering the Gen2 transaxle is there a minimum / ideal battery voltage we should aim for? With the boost converter we can get up to 500v. Max voltage with a ...

Re: Transaxle Modifications

I went out to the prius plugged in techstream to get all the live data flowing. Confirmed what I believed to be the case that the engine doesn't rotate when in ev mode. Of course it wouldn't otherwise mg1 would never be able overspeed and we wouldn't have those ev mode speed limits imposed on the sy...

Re: Transaxle Modifications

The gen 3 transaxle requires welding of the power split device as like the gen 2 the oil pump is mechanical and driven by the ice input shaft. So IF the gen2 ICE was restricted from starting and driven around in just EV mode for extended periods of time harm could occur to the system? I was looking...

13.25kw LTO replacement pack. Constructed using Toshiba modules, blasphemously bearing 'Honda' trademarks. Occupies roughly 2* the space as the original NiMH pack, in the back. Runs at 240V nominal. 10C all day long. Love those LTOs. How is this battery configuration working out for you? I saw the ...

Re: Toyota Prius Gen 2 Inverter Controller

If you use the original battery input and the boost converter for its original purpose, then you'll be limited to about 20Kw PEAK. I know from Richard Hatfield of Lightning Motorcycles, who developed a plug in conversion for the Gen2 Prius, that the boost converter will go into thermal limit when u...

Re: 4-channel BMS with daisychain bus

Would it be possible in a future revision to be able to simulate a smaller virtual battery? say for example a hybrid or PHEV you want to primarily use as a PEV. We take a gen2 prius, put 10/20kwh of batteries in it. The oem system wouldn't use that very well but if artificially suggesting constant h...

Re: how are Lexus/Toyota using torque in their application with the 2GR petrol engine

To over come the 30kw limit of the buck boost converter. Could you take two inverters and parallel just the buck boost converters to give 60kw . Then the other mg1 output of the second inverter could be used as a charger. Therefore allowing lower voltage packs to deliver more power and have the conv...
