To apply for a vehicle to be inspected by the RDW for approval, first there must be documented proof the installed system is EMC compliant to UN R10 rev. 5 standard.&lt;br /&gt;

This can be done by a certificate holder (like New Electric who has 3 full compliant systems) who declares the system has been installed with their permission and according to the same standards as during the testing process.&lt;br /&gt;

Alternatively, one can apply for waiver of the the rule. by  showing all system components come from a single mass produced EV car that has full type approval within the EU (a Model S, a Leaf, etc.) &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This second route is not foolproof and can lead to protracted &amp;#039;discussion&amp;#039; with the authorities, but there is precedent of successful and licenced conversions.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Once the EMC bump has been navigated the car can come in for inspection and road testing at RDW facility in Lelystad. There they test for compliance under ECE R100 rev.01 (electric safety in road vehicles). We advise anyone that is doing a conversion to read and understand this standard throughout as there are gotchas and details that need to be be navigated.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Finally the inspection will check if the converted vehicle still complies with the original type approval (weight, weight distribution, braking straight line, dynamic braking). If a weight increase is such that it needs to be updated in the vehicle registration then they will fully load vehicle with max occupancy weight and do full lange change testing.&lt;br /&gt;
