chain or belt

has anyone had experience of belt driven and chain driven speed reduction, I wonder which is best for my EV conversion, any help appreciated

I tried using Gates Polychain Carbon belts but I found them just too noisy.
I considered making a silent chain replacement or perhaps a gearbox (transmission chain couldn't manage the speeds I needed).
But I have since come by a cheap Leaf motor and transmission, so I'm going to try that instead.

I used a chain on my quadbike conversion, I think I would have prefered a belt but I had limited space. The chain is more durable in terms of stones and dirt getting thrown up into it as well.
Whats your project? Not sure I would use a belt or chain on anything bigger than a quad bike.

thanks, but your energy requirement are way above mine, I only need 8 to 10kw for my vintage car

my project is an EV conversion of my vintage Ford T, only needs 8 to 10 kw of power,

Either system has it's own pros and cons. I would say either would work unless there are some constraints that prevent you using one of them, like space restrictions prevented me using belts.
Have a look at the pros and cons of each and see which you would prefer.
