HV supply to Small Drive Unit - Wire question

I've made my own contactor box and need to modify the High Voltage wire that delivers power to the inverter of my small drive unit. The Wire has the funky specialized ends on it going into the inverter. I need to place lugs on the opposite end.

My question is this:

I'm chopping off one end of the tesla wires to place a lug on it. What, if anything, do I need to do with the shielding wire of the original cable?

Thank you,
David

It's generally not that important to have shielding on the cables between the battery and the inverter. The worst electromagnetic noise is going to come from the cables between the inverter and the motor.

So, you can leave it disconnected, maybe protected inside some heat shrink tubing in case it's needed some day.

However, if you have to pass a strict EMC inspection of some kind you might need to have a metal case for your battery and contactor and connect the shield to that, which is obviously what Tesla does.

I'd ground them (you can usually solder a drain wire to the copper mesh). Tesla went to a lot of effort shielding those cables at both the motor and HVJB and they probably know what they're doing :)
