For Sale: 1972 VW Camper with Tesla Motor
Posted: Mon Apr 20, 2026 2:35 am
Hi, folks.
(I still cannot believe that I am writing this, but…) I am posting my VW 1972 camper van converted to EV for SALE.
Located in the SF Bay Area. Available for in-person viewing starting May 7. PLEASE DM ME.
This is a DIY conversion. Drivetrain and core systems run perfectly; some secondary features are WIP (see below). The camper has a custom interior setup and is ready for your camping trip. I’ve driven it around the SF Bay Area and to Yosemite (Valley Village EV chargers – looks awesome next to modern EVs with the granite backdrop).
I'm currently away. But I can post more pictures of the build, documentation and the firmware. I can also provide initial support to the buyer to set you up for success.
I’m hoping to recover major parts cost. Honestly, I really don’t want to sell it, so please no lowball offers.
Components:
Cooling loop 1 (power electronics, done)
Reservoir (out) -> pump (PWM via VCU) -> radiator -> Inverter (CAN bus + IO) -> OBC/DCDC (CAN bus + IO) -> motor -> reservoir (in)
Cooling loop 2 (batteries) (WIP, not filled with coolant).
*I didn't see any issue driving and AC charging without this loop
