I'm in the planning stages of this build.

Have decided on a Tesla model s Smal drive unit. This for 300hp original and that the orientation fits quite well, from a model 3 the motor is facing the wrong way and will take in from below, ass in the floor "back seat"

My big question to you guys out there is which control system do you recommend?

And what batteries would you use?

Please tell me what components you would use for a project like this.

I can’t tell which battery but I can tell you how I decided in my 986. Measure axle weights when striped down. Estimate how much weight you have left on which axle . Scan with an iPhone or measure manually potential volume of the battery box .

Try to find a battery that matches axle loads , volume, max necessary current for SDU 650A . Use the battery module wiki page and play 3D Tetris .

If you focus power go for hybrid batteries , if range , you propably need to split the battery box in a front and a rear box

Look on grabcad for my 3d scan of the 996 engine bay. Saves a lot of heavy lifting and figuring out of angles and fitment! I struggled to make the model S rear fit so went for the front one (which is also very tight).

I'd be interested to see more photos. I've been mounting the same motor in an 996 also.

Okay it's there now, but I'll have to rebuild all the mounting points as the anti-roll bar will kick in, the electric motor is too low, ground clearance is a problem, I don't want the motor to be the lowest point. but it'll do.

What batteries & BMS are you guys planning to run?

I notice that your previous picture is the front SDU, and these most recent ones are the rear SDU. Did you change design or have I missed something?
