I purchased an engine compartment fan from a Porsche Cayman 982, Porsche part number: 982959455A. It's a SPAL fan with SPAL part number: EV.AS.VA154-ABL40.2/N-107A/SH.
The fans are used to cool the engine compartment of porsches since the radiator fan won't provide airflow like a front engine car. They're nice brushless fans with a 135mm diameter. I lucked out and got 2 fans for €30 total.

It seems these and similar fans are used on all new 911's (992), Cayman (982), and Boxster (982). They have differing part numbers, Cayman and Boxster are:
982959455A
982959455B
982959455C
They all appear to be virtually identical, but I cannot confirm.

911 numbers are:
992959133A
992959133B
They are a little different to the 982 fans but appear to be a very similar model fan and same connector. the SPAL part number is: EV.AS.VA153-ABL40.2/N-107A/SH.

The connector has very convenient labeling for pin 1,2 and 3.
Using this tutorial: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticl ... cement.htm I was able to find the pinout:
pin 1 = +12V
pin 2 = PWM
pin 3 = GND
The VW connector part number is 1j0973803 which is conveniently printed on the connector.
It seems 1j0973703 is the fitting female connector, I will update to confirm.

The PWM control scheme is similar to Bosch PCE pumps:
100Hz (no other frequencies tested),
0-5% = fail safe (fan at full speed after 10 seconds)
5-13% = fan off
13-15% = off hysteresis (stays off if the value is increasing but stays on if the value is dropping)
15-95% = PWM range, 0-100% fan speed
95-100% = fail safe

Hope this helps anyone, as it took me quite a while to figure it out.
