Hello to all.
We have a Leaf e+ and we are very happy with it.
But a bit more Battery reach would be better.
So i am thinking if i add some more Cells in Series to enhance capacity.

I only saw posts about reducing Inverter Voltage, but none about the Max Voltage that it accepts.
From disassembly Videos i did see that the Intermidiate Circuit Caps are with 450V probably the limiting factor.

Since the 62 kWh Pack uses 96S3P i am thinking of adding 8S3P to it, for example by using 6 times

Or the Original Nissan Cells if i get them

Thats 6x11,5kg more weight
29,6V more Voltage, so from 403V ==> 432,6V

Would be interesting if the Boost-Stage of the onboard charger can go so hight
Bms is still open ....

Will original Inverter SW work with higher Voltage ?

Probably adding it in the Middle of the Pack via the Emergency Switch (which is already in the middle of the cell pack)

Does somehone have any experience with this Setup ?
Any thougts on my idea ?

in a stock leaf? You will have to by pass the charger control to make it output a higher voltage, but even then. You definitely want some safety margins for voltage spikes or you’ll nuke the caps.
And really not much of a capacity increase.

Ok, so regarding charger i am anyway thinking about changing the charger for a 11kW one, probably Volkswagen ....

Yes, the safety Margin for the Caps could be a problem

6x 2,66kWh ==> 15,96 kWh thats 100 km i think that would make the difference for me (only charging at home for free with my pv)

This is a stock vehicle or a conversion? You'll have to do a lot of spoofing and a lot of extra safety pieces like the extra cells BMS to coincide with the rest of the pack.
Then there's the unknowns of what the higher voltage means to the different high voltage systems.

Its a Stock vehicle.
Good point, the other HV System is the Heater, need to check how it behaves.

Do you have some more insids into what will make issues ?

The leaf is designed to be 400V off of charge. There are going to be software or even hardware inhibits inplace to generate more then that.

Also there are a hundered and one other reasons not to mix and match cells.

The BMS will also get confused and upset, it will report the OE pack voltage, and you will add more cells in series to it so the other components see more voltage then expected.

In an OE vehicle there is no chance this will not cause more problems.
