Leaf First Spin Parameter Help

Hi all,

I have a zombieverter hooked up to a leaf stack on a bench (2019 gen3 160kw inverter). The PDM (DC-DC) has been removed from the stack, so it's just the motor & inverter. This is just a first spin test, so there's a few things missing. I do not have a shunt set up, and so I have the udcmin set to zero. I don't have contactors setup for precharge. I'm just sending current through the resistor all the time. Voltage is coming from rectified 220 from the wall. I have a little box I made with on, start, forward/rev, pot/throttle. I have savvy can listening to the zombie & inverter.

On powerup I can see the zombie enter run mode. I can see the can msg 0x1DA from the inverter has MG_InputVoltage of 304v, torque:0, and revolution:0, which all seems right. But when I look at msg 0x1D4 the torque request is always 0nm, regardless of pot settings.

I know this is not an ideal setup, but theoretically it should work. I've attached my settings and a few logs (trying to anyways. Will be in next post. Maybe I don't have permissions? IDK. I'll figure it out and logs, params will follow shortly.)

Any ideas out there? What parameters am I setting up incorrectly?

Post your params.

This is a strongly not recommended setup, pulling from the wall, you will break shit.

Here's the params file, and 2 can logs, plus an image of some spot values.

For inverter selection, I have Leaf gen 1. From what I've read I know the zombie works with other leaf gens, and I just assumed this was the correct setting. Is that right?

Thanks for taking a look!
I'll be looking into updating our test setup.

plot.

L- pot 1
R- potnom and dir

start plot
select dir to forward
increase throttle

Screenshot and share please.

Will do. It might take me a couple days to get back out to the garage. But will post when I can.

Please post all spot values by printing the webpages as pdf.

Here's the files. Interestingly the potnom didn't move. I don't know enough to know why it didn't move with the pot values. I'm assuming potnom means pot nominal... the value to use if both the pots pass redundancy checks? IDK. I'm going to go look it up.

Maybe my pot max is too high, and with the little bit that I'm turning the throttle I'm not making it out of throtdead, which is set to %10. That means pot values need to be over 310 (potmax is 3100). Does that sound right?
I turned the pot about a third of the way (pretty scared of cranking it up).
I calibrated the throttle/pot months ago, and can't remember how accurate / close it is. I'll double check the real max value when I get a chance.

Calibrate your throttle first then come back.

You are getting very very low changes in throttle compared to your declared range.

OK, I found the problem this morning. I used parts I had around to build my little control box, and turns out the pot was logarithmic, from an old audio project. So, max it was 3100, but turned half way was still only about 50. So, it was in the thotdead (potnom < %10) zone for most of the pot range.

I calibrated the pot settings to only use the first half of the pot range, and got the motor to spin as expected. So, proof of concept done. Now we're on to cleanup the test setup and think about the real configuration.

Tom, thanks for your help and suggestions, and all the work on the SW.
