Hey all, here is my project, a Tesla Powered Dune Buggy for cruising the beach, Tesla Beach Buggy: TuBBy
I'm committed to using recycled parts that would otherwise be wasting space, so the drive unit and battery are from junkyard vehicles, and the volkswagen pan had no body, but the registration was good.

Some Key Components:
  • Tesla Rear SDU from a 2016 Tesla Model S
  • Pan from a 1969 Volkswagen Beetle {For Registration and street legality}
  • Custom Fabrication to adapt Tesla Model S spindles/steering/suspension/wheels
  • Tesla Model 3 battery pack from a 2023 Tesla Model 3
Where I'm at:
  • I have a few more fabrication steps before the front end is totally complete, but right now it bounces on all 4 tires. I need to finish mounting the front lower control arms, the electric power steering and the electric brake booster.
  • Mounting the body and finishing the lighting is an easy job given the simplicity of the setup. It will get wrapped in Rapid Blue with white accents
  • The SDU has the openinverter logic board installed by West Side EV and I have the Inverter getting to "RUN" mode, so HV is next
  • The Model 3 battery pack is complete, so before I take it apart to reconfigure the modules, I want to get the HV controller awake and reading some CANBUS messages. I'm considering the EV controls TBS controller or Damien's control boards, if I can figure out if I need both the BMS and PBC controllers, or if the PBC controller does both

Can't wait to see how you "reconfigure" the M3 battery pack. These modules are long, heavy and FRAGILE! Breathe on it wrong and things fly right off of it. :(
