I have a mystery 50kw motor that I thought was IPM. But after disassembly to update to a modern MLX90380 sin/cos sensor. It has surface magnets. I wanted to run with my gen 3 Prius. What is my best options? I read foc is not efficient. Also had an arm to move rotor in and out of windings. if anyone know any thing about this motor? It came with a prototype vehicle.

You can run BLDC with FOC. Apparently field weakening doesn't work so well but that's hearsay.

Great thanks. I will give it a try.

So I'm using default setting from wiki. I have voltage configured running 90v. I have set manual id as high as 200 and all I get is noise and a light bit of cogging but no rotation. On sine I get rotation but with max throttle I only get a very slow rotation. I have udcmin corrected. Also swapped phases. IS

Ok, slowly. Do you get valid position feedback when turning by hand? Are you sure about the number of pole pairs of both sensor and motor? Have you checked the waveform of the sensor to be within 0-3.3V? What is the midpoint (min+max)/2?

I got a little confused so resolver polls is 1 for sin/cos but polepairs is actual motor. I counted 10 magnets that would be 5? I did have a nice wave on the scope. I'm Using MLX90380 on 3.3v I need to re check my midpoint. thanks
