LDU board first time setup questions

Hello all and thank you in advance for taking the time to review my questions. I have been working on my EV conversion with a friend who is more knowledgeable than me when it comes to electrical components and programming however even he has some questions.
So my questions are as follows,
1) I have connected the high voltage as indicated to the contactors. Do I understand correctly that the controller pulls to ground for engaging the positive, negative, and precharge contactors?
2) Under the document "Tesla Large Drive Unit Signals" I understand that I must supply 12v to pin 1 for ignition. At this point the motor should be in neutral. Then I engage pin 7 or 5 for drive/reverse. How do I then go back to neutral?
3) Related to question 2, what is pin 23 for? Is it necessary for starting the motor or putting into drive?
4) Can you please supply me all the canbus codes for communicating with the motor?
5) From my understanding this board I have was purchased from Damien pre-programmed and ready to work. I purchased it from someone who decided to use a different controller. Is there a way I can check to see what programming is on it? Should I just try to spin the motor?
