Knocking noise in camry hybrid transaxle

Post by Dxtawise »

We were recently wondering what could be making a knocking noise each time the ICE comes on.

The noise becomes unbearable, as the vehicle moves.

Initially, we thought the noise was coming from the engine. Engine was removed and disassembled to investigate if there were maybe spurn connecting rod bearings, etc. But nothing suspicious was found. Reinstalled the engine, READIED ON the vehicle. And immediately the ICE came on, we noticed the noise was somehow from the transmission. We suspected it to be as a result of a fault input damper, we replaced, but did not solve the noise. On dismantling the transxle, in order to diagnose it, we discovered that this bearing, probably affixed to the planetary unit, was bad.

The root cause of this failure to me, was caused by lack of trans fluid in the trans axle, seeing that it was a totalled toyota camry hybrid 2007 from the USA.

We are ordering a transmission to fix this problem.

I do have spare gears for the transaxle, but not the planetary gear for MG2. If you want them you can have them, but you would have to work out how to get them to yourself.

Kind regards,

The planetary replacement took care of the noise.
