Dublin DIY EV Meetup at Tog Hackerspace 26/08/23

Post by marcexec »

Happy new year everyone!

Edit: the event is live now: https://www.tog.ie/2023/01/diy-your-way ... c-vehicle/ (Eventbrite link, free, but you can donate there or on-site)

Calling all DIY EV enthusiasts on the island of Ireland (and Wales?).
I'm organising a family friendly meetup which will be held at the Tog Hackerspace Dublin on Sunday the 26th of February from 14:00-16:00 (2 to 4 pm).
I'll be there earlier and the place is open anyway. Tog hope to co-host it with an engineering event. Slow charging is possible on site. The nearest rapid charger is at Newlands Cross Circle K

The event will be on Eventbrite soon to book & inform the general public and I hope to have as many conversions* on site as possible. I also want to invite car engineering/modification garages to raise awareness and make contacts (drifeshafts etc.).

Image

It would also be an opportunity to swap/sell parts and maybe meet others from your area to collaborate

It would be brilliant to have el jefe de Lanzarote there, unfortunately he's taking a break from the forum.
Edit: reached him on Discord - he can't make it this time.

I will need your help to make this as successful as possible - PM me and I'll share my mobile.

Committed to attend (Name) and present (Vehicle):

Marc (marcexec) - Suzuki RF400E
Fiachra (Cookie6000) - Audi 8E
Håkan (turnip73) - Prius kit
paaa - surprise (hopefully)
Dilbert - 38kWh Ionic
unkel - Red Arrow (hopefully)

Brilliant! Apologies if I didn't notice (you are all over the SW threads after all), but will you be bringing a vehicle?

Yes but sadly not an EV, DIY or otherwise. :(

Edit: I might put my DIY Ebike in the car if I can make it fit. ;)

I will absolutely attend! Fair play for getting this going. No chance I'll have the samurai there unfortunately.

On the off chance anyone is shipping spare parts, I'm looking to get some HV cable, brake booster pump and a car side type two connector. Would happily pay a forum member vs ebay.

Looking forward to seeing you all and getting some advice!

Awesome, we're getting close to 10 already!
Bring friends/families, the hackerspace is very nice and welcoming (for what it is).
It will at least show them that we're "not the only ones like this" :D

Slightly short notice to take the ferry. If you want to organise one for later in the year I can pencil it in and bring a cab.

Edit: As a matter of fact, with a bit of lead time we might also be able to get Johannes over, maybe sync it with a bigger event.

Tick-tock lads.
Can you kindly send me some pictures of the cars/stuff that you are bringing? The hackerspace is looking to ramp up PR to promote the event.

On a personal note battery upgrade 24S to 40S might be tough to pull off in time but the bike is coming 100%.

Yes thanks for the invite and the craic. It was a great day and hopefully next time I'll be able to bring something a bit bigger than a unusually dodgy ebike.

Thanks everyone for attending! I had a great time despite the cold weather. I think it was very worthwile to exchange ideas and see what's possible.
I'd expect the odd new user on the forum here as well, we certainly inspired some (good luck with the quad, Chris from Naas!).

Due to the success, we'll have another one this year in 6 months - 26/08/2023!

Yes agreed.

a Super gig all round, and many thanks to the Tog Hackerspace guys.
Last, but not least, hope the Red Arrow is on it's way home with a brand new NCT. Keep away from the Champers until you are home.

Regards to everyone

I was chatting to someone regarding cable for the resolvers/encoders on the GS450H, I didn't actually get your name. The cable I was talking about is generally referred to as belden cable, but a few companies make it. It was originally used as data communications in the 1990s before UTP cable.

I have access to some of it, so drop me a PM.
