Is resolver needed powering a pump

I have a gen 3 prius inverter and leaf em61 motor that replaces a 50 hp engine. Do I need the resolver? I’m going for simplicity and reliability.

Short answer yes, there are other sensorless controller’s out there that could do the job without, but for an OI control board it’s a must. Yes you could probably make it spin in manual mode with the sine software and no resolver, your not going to get the torque control you need for a pump without using the resolver and the FOC software
