Gen2 to Gen3 inverter plug conversion. Wiring diagrams needed

Post by Zapatero »

Hi,

Im about to install a gen 3 160 kw inverter in my EV86. I got a plug from the Gen 3 with some cable on it. So I'm gonna chop the Gen 1 (correction! I ment Gen2) plug off and solder the Gen3 plug on. Should be:

6 cables for the resolver?
2 canbus cables
12v
Ground

Can anyone support with wiring diagrams or wiring knowledge?

Thanks

I don't know if gen1 and gen2 share the same pinout but here is what I got for Gen2 and Gen3 Leaf inverters.
Gen2, pinout
Gen2, pinout
Gen3, pinout
Gen3, pinout

I ment Gen2, not Gen1 - sorry!

Here's what i got from johannes when i bought the board:

2 questions i got left
  • what would happen if the Resolver-Cables are mixed up? E.g.: Pin 17 and 18 on the Gen2 harness are switched? It's not really clear which PIN is which cable! - SOLVED by looking at the diagram (+ and - and wire color coding)
  • The temperature sensor of the Gen3 Harness doesn't seem to be in the Gen2 harness. Does the Inverter need this to function?

Due to the matching cable colors it seems pretty straight forward and the resolver cables all match.

Just the question about the extra temperature sensor i couldn't solve! But as far as i found out it's on the new inverter. So it's obvious how to connect!

Have a look at Dala's video on this topic, talks about the extra temp sensor approx. 10min into the video.

Hi, the temperature sensor is attached to the inverter already. Looks like a simple plug hopefully you can salvage it from somewhere easily enough 🙂

Question for the Gen3 Wiring: Is Pin 1 and Pin 6 permanently connected to 12V+ and Pin 18 on Ignition?

I run my gen2 with all three (pin 42, 46 and 48) connected to ignition power. Probably this will work for gen3 as well.

Hi, how are you getting on with this? Could you possibly share how you're doing the wiring and control as you go? Would be very interesting and useful. 😊

Due to my house renovation i didn't have time to do the nice things :?

But here we go, the last few days i converted the car and the hardest part was to find a wire that i can control over a digital I/O on my custom STM32 ECU.

The hybrid-Harness of Gen2 and Gen3 is very easy made due to the same colors in the loom. If you have, like me, the whole loom (i bought one from marty) then it's a fairly easy job.

Heres the loom that is ready to go into the car. After successful testing it will pe properly covered in cable tube and tape.

Where did you get the plug from?
Lots of inverters for sale, but without the plug, can't find it anywhere

Might help to do a search for connectors in the Gen 3 thread

The linked Plug in the Threat is wrong - it's the one from the Battery. I bought this and it didn't fit. I then bought another used Plug that from an actual GEN3 Inverter. There is no other option than buying an original Plug cut out of the Harness as far as i know.
