18ish kWh Home energy storage system with 3.8kwp of solar

Post by paaa »

Quick bit of info on my project that I have been working on in my spare time. Goal wal to be able to cover houses entire energy needs and any excess used to charge the ev or sent to v2g charger.
System specs are below
2x 5kw EAsun I grid svii inverter in parrallel
18x used Valence uev-18xp batteries
(Tested at min 1.1kwh per module )
3.8kwp of trina solar panels and 2 tigo duo optimisers
Reconfigured Valence ubms unit to manage inter module balancing

Still not finished but currently just running in grid tie mode.
Will give updates as I make more progress.

Wow, that looks very tidy! Is it doing zero import/export yet?

Thanks Johannes
,It's just grid tied with house currently with a dedicated output to a series of sockets inside the house but should have it feeding full house soon as need to get a registered electrican to do the work near fuse box in Ireland. Majority of the excess is being used up the export matching ev charger and and a v2g unit I'm playing with as it allows charging of ev down to 100w. Hopefully will have and update again next week.

Hm...
I have one here also :). Made with 2x EAsun inverters and Ampera cells.
I wired my complete house to a single phase using three phase transfer switch which allows me to transfer system from 3phase to one phase and back if i need. Circled in red. This makes it a little less invasive to the minds of people, but really when you dod this you dont want to get back. I only have heatpump and car EVSE on 3phase which is pulled off before the single phase junction.

Generally i see that one Ampera 16kWh battery is enough for supplying the house, which is really more like 10kWh of energy really.
Inverters work in parallel for 10kW power and they each have one string of 8 400W panels.
However we find 12 panels in a string are more optimal, wired in 6S2P. Then even shade would produce some power.

I am still waiting on wooden shoe closet for battery storage to make everything more eye appealing.

Nice one arber , I have mine working besides two things , the inverters won't work in parrallel properly as one has newer firmware and it seems to be impossible to get a copy. Also need a raspberry pi to provide mqqt suport for home assistant integration so I can run clever automations and monitor remotely.

Thanks!
You need to replace I/O card in each inverter by the parallel version. So you would need 2x such cards to get inverters to work in parallel.

Already did that , but that highlighted firmware difference.

Quick update , had a go at integrating the inverter control into my home assistant. Turns out my inverter uses different come protocol. So just to save time I bought a solar assistant licence as interim solution. Next steps are to fix the issue with the firmware that is causing issue when units are paralled.

Recently been trying the solar assistant pi image , it is great as it allows you to create mqqt server to control units using home assistant. This is great for load shifting when you have time of use tariffs. Next thing is to try integrate some predictive charging instead of fixed time / voltage setup I have now.
