Prius GEN3 Inverter @ 48V?

Post by Geeker »

I am very curious to learn if the Prius Gen3 Inverter can operate on a 48v system, and if so, what can it do with a 48v input? Will the Boost circuit operate at all with a 48v input? If so, what would be its max output capabilities?
Does the boost circuit only exist on the output for one motor?
What are the limitations with the Gen3 Inverter?
Minimum usable input voltage?
Max Kw output?
Max Amp throughput?
Any clarification of these details would be greatly appreciated!
Thanx!

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread but I have the same question.

I've been thinking about doing a go-kart with a 48v battery, gen 2 or 3 Prius inverter, and a Hyundai HSG motor / alternator. Can the boost converter run off a 48v battery and get to say 200v?

Yes it can, limited to presumably 100A. So 4.8 kW
The inverter itself, without the boost converter can operate at around 500A, so with a suitable motor you get more power without the converter
