I'm still deciding on a project car but currently liking Alfa Remeo 147, 156 or GT.
Alfa Remeo 147, me likey YES.

I would love to do an Alfa GT. Lots of good FWD options now and I've always loved that shape. Sold my GTV when I finished (ha!) my conversion but still fancy one of those. Or a sportwagon...

As far as I know there are no legal issues for the simple reason that if you start with a road legal car, modifications do not change that status.

The three issues you will have though are:
1) Will it still pass an MOT? This is the only one that affects the "road legal" status of the vehicle itself.
2) Can you get insurance?
3) Will the DVLA accept your request to change the fuel type. If it's post-2000 the answer is right now no, but this only means you have to continue to pay tax.
