I'm almost done wiring the car, almost everything works by now.
As we figured out that the Zombieverter could only drive the rpm OR the speedometer i decided for the speedometer and put an digital gauge in place of the rpm gauge.

It's a canchecked MFD28 display that comes with software and can literally show anything on the Canbus.

Looks awesome!
What's the Zombieverter's limitation in your case there?

Don't forget to make it dimmable with an input or so.
Displays can be very bright at night.

It has 3 PWM outputs but they all run at the same frequency. Speedometer and rev counter need a (different!) variable frequency so you must pick which one you want to run.

Which frequencies, how high do we talk about?

The speedo is 166 Hz at 250 km/h
We never tested the rev counter

Successfully tested on the Canbus so far:

Power steering and steering angle sensor
Orion BMS
BMW Lim
IBooster Brake

On the Zombieverter VCU:
Electric power pedal
Brake pedal
Forward/reverse switch and 4WD switch
Cruise Control
Heater control

Also the radio controls through the steering wheel are working with the new radio.

Pretty nice for a 1996 Impreza :)

Laying on the dashboard you can see the openpilot hardware! O already integrated the openpilot box into the car harness.

Looks like a car again:

Impressive how quickly you are bringing this build together. Inspiring stuff.

Did you mount one of the Outlander motors in the reverse orientation of the others? I take it there's no issue running it the other way round?
I'm thinking I might have to do this in my long-planned build.

Update: Johannes and me had another session and everything works so far. Now i just have to put the batteries in. Unfortunately part 2 of the house renovation is taking up all my time and it'll be another 2-3 weeks until i can work on the subaru again!

I don't know yet for sure as i didn't drive it, BUT i still have plan B: Swap 2 cables of the connection between inverter and motor and swap the resolver cables according to it, then it'll spin backwards thinking it's spinning forward. Motor won't even know whats happening 8-)

Finally, after a battery disaster, i am moving forward with this conversion. I sold the Kona-Battery as the TÜV-Guidelines for building EVs in Germany have been changed while i built this Impreza, saying that an energy storage unit can't be any closer than 400mm to the front end of the bumper and 300mm to the rear end of the bumper. I bought the Leaf-Battery with 40 KwH from Marty from this forum. That Pack is so much easier to install!!!
Yesterday we welded the battery boxes and put half the Pack und the back. The planned watercooling won't work now, but i'm planning on aircooling them.

Plenty of space at the front! Very impressive and factory-looking build

Thanks a lot for sharing all this info - super helpful as I'm about to pull the engine out of my Legacy GT (3rd Gen) to build battery boxes up front. Did you do any 3D modelling to plan the space at all? Just curious.

Sorry to hear that as I enjoyed following this build but sometimes life happens and we have to move on.
Good luck and hopefully we will see you back here again sometime.
