Hi everyone, long time lurker, first time poster.

I have a long term plan to convert my gen 1 Honda Insight to EV but if I am honest I am a wee while away from having the time and the space to do the work. I do, however, need to get a new runaround/city car for the wife and I so I am thinking about getting something that would make a good donor car later. I think my options are realistically a Leaf, Zoe, SMART FourTwo, or one of the I-MiEV variants. Which would be best in terms of donor car if I decided to use EV components in the Insight later? Or am I better off picking components bit by bit? TIA

In terms of hackability Leaf components are probably the most common and well documented. Potentially followed by some of the I-MiEV stuff as that is very similar to Outlander components. I don't think there has been all that much hacking done on the Zoe or Smart cars.
So in that respect it would be easiest to get a Leaf.
