GS450 (L110) vs L210 selection advice

Post by krita »

Hi All,

Been lurking here for a year or so, looking at converting a hilux work ute to full EV. I'm trying to decide if I'll require the GS450h 2 speed transmission over the L210(crown hybrid) single speed due to weight.

Currently it tips the scales at about 2200kg full of regular tools and materials and i assume ill be adding 300ish kg when conversion is complete. I drive up and down hills daily of 19% gradient to and from my house so would like to maintain ~60km/h on those but one of our highways has a hilly section of 28% gradient in a 100km/h zone. The current petrol V6 has 343Nm torque and doesn't struggle to pull the weight up the hills but obviously has a gearbox for assistance.

Diff ratio is 3.583:1 with 235/55R17 tires.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated as i want to do it right the first time

Based on Paul Compton's maths I think you might struggle to get the higher speeds with that diff setup, though I don't think anyone has tested it yet. I'm using the L210 in my new project and will likely look for a diff with a less than 3:1 ratio to swap in.

Can I ask where these calculations are to have a look at?

Gearing looks ok for speed and rpm requirements through an excel spreadsheet I made, unless I missed something.

L110 110km/hr @ 5800 RPM in HI MG1 Speed
L110 110km/hr @ 11850 RPM IN LOW MG1 Speed
I cant find the reduction ratio between MG1 and MG2 and assume these is no more reduction between MG1 and the shift assembly of the transmission.

L210 110hm/hr @ 10100RPM MG2 Speed
L210 110hm/hr @ 7900RPM MG1 Speed

Hi, sorry to resurrect, where did you get those RPM ratings for l210? I'm looking at using it with my van. Cheers

It was using mostly forum data I found about the transmission ratios along with items known like diff ratio and rolling diameter or tyres. I'm not sure my numbers were accurate as at that point.
