As the title states i was wondering how much voltage one would take reliably i have 12 A123 lifepo4 40v 12s modules i was planning 10 in series but at max charge voltage it would be 432v versus 388v for 9 packs would is take the 432 on the higher end ?

It's about the margin in regards to the fets in the inverter. If I'm correct they are 600Volts. So I think you can do that but I would monitor the battery voltage closely and ramp Regen accordingly with battery SoC etc.

I guess is it worth taking the risk for the extra .75 kwh module

actually the issue is the bus capacitor that one is spec'd lower. In another thread this question came along too.

The Model 3 caps are rated at 430VDC. Not sure what SDU is.

I would not go with 10 modules unless someone (you have the unit - have a look) can confirm the caps are rated to 500VDC.

You don’t have to charge the pack up to pack voltage…
