we did the bleeding with no electricity going to the iBooster and the pedal operated normally as far as the bleeding goes, then we wired it up and supplied power to the iBooster and the assist comes on and the pedal works for about 80% of the stroke and then as it bottoms out it starts to wobble and pulsate and makes a noise

Is it possible the crv master cylinder is simply to small for your brake system so therefore doesn’t push enough fluid per stoke, so you are maxing out the stroke of the i booster, is there a different larger diameter master cylinder that will bolt up?

OK that doesn't sound normal, have you tried bleeding with the power on? (Is it even possible???) might be worth hitting the CRV forums and asking there (don't tell them where the cylinder is or their heads will explode) EV8's suggestion is a possibility too - it sounds like the sort of behavior I'd expect from a system that was "pumping the pedal" due to an over long travel - hence my original question.

To test the hypothesis that the master is too small, how about temporarily closing off the line to one of the rear drums as a test? This would halve the fluid displacement to the rear

first thank you all for trying to help and offering advice and suggestion always welcome another point of view and any ideas you may have

so we did two types of bleeding
  • 1A. we first bleed the air out of the master cylinder (while it was mounted on the truck) using the one guy cracks the outlet hose lines while another guy pushes on the brake pedal manual method, ie no power to the iBooster
  • 1B. we also tried to bleed the master cylinder while supplying power to the iBooster again by just simply cracking the outlet port line nuts
  • 2. we bleed the brake slave cylinders with no power supplied to the iBooster
I am thinking of reverse bleeding the system using one of these $85 dollar doo dads on AMAZON

I do have that very vacuum pump, and my concern with it is that, the Master Cylinder sits way high in this truck possibly 2 feet above the slave cylinders, and if I suspect the air is trapped inside the MC then we would have to work against physics and gravity with a vacuum pump and try to pull the air bubbles down and out the slave cylinders, that's why I want to try pushing it out the top

so after eyeballing the old Honda CRV master cylinder some more I learned it actually houses not one but two pistons in series formation one behind the other


here is the front piston, it appears to be hollow

Fair enough that makes sense. If you can find an O-ring that just fits over your bleed pipe in its free state, then push it back over the nipple once the pipe is in place it will help to seal, a tie wrap can work too but they tend to distort the shape of the pipe.

The two pistons are part of the dual circuit failsafe system, they might be part of the problem as air can get trapped between the two pistons.

Is your master cylinder defiantly returning all the way back? Check there is a little free play at the push rod when the pedal is returned to make sure the transfer ports are being fully uncovered.

I don't think it's the bleeding that's made the difference it's the spacers you added that are allowing the pistons to return far enough to uncover the transfer (intake) ports. Keep at it I'm sure you're getting there.

some trial fitment going on here, I do plan on cutting the 90° elbow shorter to bring the hose closer to the Inverter allowing me to use a hose clamp off of it to secure it so it's not all up in space like this (by the way that's a Tesla water pompulator)

same on this radiator inlet hose, this is coming from the passenger side of the transmission and I hate that it has to run across the engine bay under the battery pack, wish my inlets and outlets on the radiator were on opposite sides (how could Genereal Motors not envision this back in 1967?)


this 90° downward elbow will also be shortened and brong over closer to nearly hug the radiator, this again is just some expensive brain storming

yup, so I tried to cheap out on one adapter and it bit me, here I was trying to connect a 5/8 water pump hose to a 7/8-1 1/2" radiator reducer and no dice, so what you have to do is go 5/8 - 1" reducer to a 1"-1 1/2" reducer to the radiator, oh well this gives me a chance to order a 45° reducer instead of the straight one so there's that

Three Reasons Why the Tesla iBooster is Superior and One Reason Why it's Not

THE GOOD
  1. it comes with a full size brake fluid reservoir
  2. the reservoir for brake fluid that it comes with is full size
  3. comes with a super duper removable adapter plate round ring bracket thingie
THE BAD
  • unlike it's Honda cousins it does not use bubble flare fittings so you have to use the metric double flare fittings and I have yet to find a metric double flare to standard inverted flare adapter (for those of us in the Indenedent States, for you Europeans blah blah blah)
