Hi everyone,
did a quick Google search but no luck.
would anyone know where i could find the wiring diagram the Prius inverter water pump?
I think its from a 2008 model.
I was expecting to see only two wires but there are 4.

Pin 3 is a control signal, PWM I guess, to control the pump speed adn pin2 is a feedback signal which tells the pump speed, PWM as well I guess.
I don't know if the pump will run without the control signal on pin 3.
I just bought myself the same pump model so I will be able to verify once I have received it.

Scratch that.
I just tried +12V and -12V.
I can confirm that the pump will run WITHOUT PWM signal.
Pin1 (+12V) is the yellow jumper wire.
Will not run if +12V and -12V are reversed.

From what I've heared, those are not really reliable. People replace them with simple 12V pumps from Mercedes or VAG. I've bought two VAG pumps for my invertors and they just work.

I had salvaged a pump from a Prius, but it didn't work, and yeah, apparently they're famous, and, unnecessary (until they're necessary), so often no one notices they're broken.
Mercedes are hard to come by, but Volkswagen I can find lots of.
Half-hijack, but, models/years in particular? I'm a complete novice.

From what I could find there are two part numbers for this pump, G9040-48020 which is replaced by G9040-47090 so my hope is that the later will be more reliable. Time will tell...

Mercedes - E W211 2002-2009 auxiliary water pump. Two contacts 12v, fits toyota hose diameter.

Might it be possible to use a pump designed for liquid cooled computers or solar thermal systems?

I tried to control the speed of the pump but with very little success. Using a transistor at pin 3 I can turn the pump on and off but I get no response from PWM. The frequencies I tested was 31kHz, 4kHz, 1kHz, 120Hz and 30Hz i.e. the frequencies you get from an 328p arduino by only changeing the prescaler.
Any other type of control that might be smart to test? Is the pump speed controlable at all?

It might be controlled by a duty cycle type signal, a lot of automotive stuff is that way. Usually a fixed Hz pulse and variable duty %.

Seem lika a lower input supply voltage reduces the speed of the pump.
The sens signal at Pin 2 provides a varying frequency with speed and at full speed I get 38Hz. If this is one pulse per revolution that results in 38*60 = 2280rpm. Might be possible?
Above 13V I get a constant speed, tested up to 16V.
If I lower the supply voltage below 13V the speed deceases. It runs down to 7V but need 9V to start.
Still have no idea of how to control the speed with Pin 3.
I might create a break out cable and find a Toyota to see if I can listen to the signaling. This is however low priority since I have bought a Bosch pump, but still interesting.

Seem like the Chevy Volt stuff is control with a steady 100 HZ and varying Duty Cycle.
Arduino's have Default frequency's on different pins but non are 100HZ.
Here is a link on how to change the Frequency's on a Arduino.
I haven't tried myself but I'm in the middle of ripping my car apart.
