Looking for a lighter alternative for the bulky Tesla 11kW on-board charger, I came across the i3 charger.
- Half the weight
- CCS Fast-charge contactors integrated

Scored one and took it apart yesterday. First remarkable thing I did not know; the KLE for the 3-phase chargeable i3 is just a 2-phase charger ! Charger for the third phase seems to be integrated in the EME.

Anyone already did some reverse-engineering om this thing ? I do have access to a 2019 i3 (with exactly this KLE inside) since a couple of days, so will make some CAN-logs one of these days.

Sure, no problem ! Handling an electric car that just 'works' is new to me, so still have to arrange some charge cards, look for a quiet CCS-station around here, find a place to tap the CAN-wiring and kindly ask her not to plug the thing into the wall after every short trip so there is something to charge

Just a prod -- I'm keen on using one of these as it looks like a really neat package for CCS as well as AC charging. Have you managed to get any can logs?

Anyone done any investigation on this unit, also on non CCS AC only onboard charger.

I friend has a i3 now, the charger throttles to 3.3kw because of crappy cooling. BMW has recals for older revisions of Kle units. Not sure the dates, but Might be worth checking when buying second hand

Not yet. I hoped to find a 3-phase 11kW charger in this thing. Unfortunately it is just a 2-phase (6,6kW) charger, the third phase (3,3kW) is integrated in de EME, so the charger is less interesting for my build. Will figure CAN-control out somewhen, but it currently has no priority for me.

Anyone had any luck getting one of these to fire up?
