Hi All,

Heres some pics of the Golf MK7 GTE hybrid battery its 8.7kw watercooled. the bms communates to the battery modules thru canbus.

if any one has a golf GTE or Audi etron near London who wouldn't mind letting me plug my diagnostic into to get the canbus control messages would be mega helpful. i would like to control the linbus controlled ac compressor.

Anyone has any info on VW inverter and charger wiring from Golf GTE? HV and LV connector pinout would be appreciated.
I have them sitting here not doing their thing and that frustrates me :).

I have the same pack. Documented on the wiki. There's a dbc file there for the internal battery can bus.

What's missing the the balance command, it would be great if you did manage to get a car to plug your pack in to and charge, see if we can get a log during balancing

Hi this is the pinout for the battery external connecter as near as i can figure.

External Pins GTE Battery and E-up
1 Can H Power
2 Can L Power
3 Airbag Crash
4 Pilot (In)
5
6 12v (30a)
7
8 IGN (15a)
9 GND
10 12v Safety (30a)
11 Pilot (out)
12 Airbag Crash
13 Can H Hybrid
14 Can L Hybrid

you need two 75ohm resistors on the pilot line to remove the safety errror

Stick any info you find on the wiki, might be useful to someone.

On the contactor control board, the left most white wire, and right moat white wire, do you have any clues as to what they are for? Maybe the safety interconnect? I butchered the cabling before checking where they go.
20210212_150822.jpg
The 2 reds next to it are 12v in, the black can low, white can high(battery can) the next black is GND, the black with a ring terminal had 5v on it, assuming it's used for some isolation tests?

The first white appears to be 12v ignition, give it 5v and the other 2 voltage regulators start spitting out 5v. Just one wire left to identify now.

it would be great if these contactor control boards can be used on other projects!

I can arrange a few of these units if people want to play with them.

I've killed my contactor control board if you have any spare to play with.

My finish is a bit rusty; what whas his conclusions?
Mine was that it needed quite some beating and heat before it catched fire...
Which chemistry is this?

About what you said..

Basilicly some main points in video are.

- Firemen should not sink an EV, but to get access straight to the heated / on fire modules from top of battery.

- The battery modules should not catch fire very easily and are designed to hold during crash.

The module in video should be with NMC chemistry and 12 x 25Ah cells in the module by Sanyo(Panasonic)

I've got a second pack to play with. I've been able to get the contactors to close from the hybrid can thanks to some logs from DomT177
Screenshot 2022-02-18 at 7.57.07 pm.png
This is the pinout of the external connector. To close the contactors 0x09C & 0x3A6 are needed on the hybrid can.
0x3A6 58 02 11 00 00 01 00 00 byte 1 (0 indexed) increaments to 0F and restarts, not yet sure if it cares about that. Byte 0 is always the same, so for 0x02 byte 0 will be 0x58.

From the outside, if you replay this log https://github.com/jamiejones85/GolfGTE ... _KeyOn.asc on the hybrid can bus the contactors will close. I didn't look any further though.

Anybody who knows what the recommended maximum current draw from this pack is?
Also curious about the weight... Not much info on these packs on the internet.

I have here 300A fuse from VW Passat GTE pack.

Thanks! I somehow missed your very informative wiki-page. Looks like it would be worth the extra money to use the Passat GTE battery
as it seems to have about 15kW higher peak power than the Golf GTE pack judging by the fuses, an extra kWh of capacity doesn't hurt either.
I am playing around with the thought of either a Tesla SDU or preferably an E-Mustang rear drive unit as it has parking lock built in, powered
by two VW hybrid packs in parallel as they would fit perfectly under the floor of my old 2001 Smart Fortwo. :-) Not exactly a long range
missile but a snappy little cobra commuter perfect for my 17km roundtrip to work, should get over 100km range which would be plenty for my needs.

Back to the drawing board....... 8-)

Hello, I bought a battery pack golf GTE 8.7KWH
and I haven't opened it yet.
My project would be to recover the modules of the lithium battery to use them for the solar panels with an inverter.
Is this doable in your opinion?
and how can i test the battery to see if i have been robbed, as it is a chance.
Thanking you
