My third EV and the second full conversion was a 1984 Mk2 VW Scirocco 1.8GTI.
I got it on the road in 2001/2 and it was my daily driver, but I ended up selling it in 2006, then in 2019, I was offered the car back.
It's still quite sound, but needs a lot of work and pretty much a complete interior.
The pictures are from when I collected the car from Birmingham.

1000a DC motor controller out of a Prius inverter?Would get you back on road quite quick
See if you can find a donor parts car (possibly a really tired golf) for the interior and usefull spares and sell the rest, you'll probability break near even if your lucky
Edit: just watched the 650a 192v on 2000 (ISH) that's quite impressive, that must of cost you a pritty penny back then.
You could also split a normal pick in 2 half e.g. your i3 pack spit into 2 paralleled 48s packs.

Stripdown mostly complete. I can now see most of what needs to be done to repair the shell.
