Maybe Damien was wrong after all. :o

Or is this why he has such a great supply of dead cars. ;)

Hehehe I saw this earlier.

To be fair he goes on this same rant about Audi and the Viper as well - basically not designed for serviceability, just getting a package in a space and then on the assembly line, and out the door...

The cost of labor to replace cheap parts is definitely infuriating.

Did you see Hoovie's video about why his C65 was totalled because of an oil leak?
To replace the seal you have to remove a bracket.
To remove the bracket you have to remove the timing cover.
To remove the timing cover you have to remove the head.
WTF!?!

To change the rear head oil return O-ring on a Ducati engine, first remove motorcycle.

To be fair, this was the first time I've worked on one and it only took me about an hour and a half, including making the cradle to support the engine.
Often the longer way to do a job is actually quicker. I used to drop the right rear suspension off my X1/9 to change the cambelt, but could do so in about half an hour, the Fiat service book time was over three!

That isn't actually that bad of a job. I done it on the N47 engine, but never on the 6 cylinder. I actually had to do it twice as on the N47 it wasn't the gasket on the oil filter housing (which i had bought) that was gone, it was the o-ring on the one way valve above it. Of course i didn't have an o-ring kit so had to reassemble and buy the one way valve.

This is mostly about BMW's engines, I guess... and that's a trend with pretty much all European manufacturers. Chassis-wise, I don't really like macpherson struts on any higher-spec car for very obvious reasons, but... can't really fault what they've achieved despite them.
