yeah I wish it was that easy. Those videos are helpful once you have it installed. I can't find many resources on actually getting it on my machine.

I went ahead and started a separate thread to track my struggles, and to get help without muddying this i3 thread.

So I missed a delivery today, I'm hoping it's the sniffer and I'm picking it up tomorrow.

Whilst I'm trying to get the wires untwisted enough to get the can reader on without cutting them does anyone know which is can high?
Red or red and blue?

I don't know myself but the reader will show red if you connect backwards. I normally just peel back tape a good bit on both side of where I want to place the dongle and then untwist or tighten twist elsewhere and separate the wires and hold them up to the reader without back plate installed.

Ah, ok
I think I've got it the wrong way round.
I've got the drivers downloaded now so I'll try again after work 🤞

Pretty sure red is high (from memory). BMW really like to twist their wiring nice and tight but it's all good quality.

I have a 2020 i3 now, so I could potentially help with this work, but I don't have a CAN reader yet.

Would I be correct in thinking that the speed is 500kbps on the FA CAN Muehlpower?

Given the LIM I bench tested pumped out at 500k I'd say that's a safe bet.

I'm thinking of doing a real time video alongside the first download, I was going to operate the central locking, open the charger flap etc to see if that shows up the interlocks. (That might have been a different thread but could still be useful info)
Would the video help do you think?
Also where do you want all this info put?
On my own GitHub or does someone have a project already open?

Ok, so I've tried the wires both ways and have a continuous red light on the dongle 🤔

I did power the car up and plug the charger in so it was thinking about charging, I'm hoping I've found the right cables.
It's definitely one red twisted with a red and blue.

Just one thing to check is that the twisted cables sit correctly on the backplate before you put unit together. There is a risk that they sit funny and don't come close enough for contact. If you need help send me a PM and ill WhatsApp call you tomorrow.

Just tested mine this morning. The can wires do need to be in close contact with the white lines.

I was thinking the back plate would hold the wires in place well enough, I'll try holding them in place like you have and see what happens.
Thanks everyone

I managed to get to a rapid charger today and managed to get a steady green light on the pick up but it wasn't flashing so I couldn't get a log.
The pick-up doesn't seem to read with the backing plate on so I was moving the wires with my fingers and on occasion getting the steady green light.
It looks like I'll have to try the pin idea to get a more reliable reading.
