Guess I'll try reducing it first, see if I can get it so I can stamp on it from standstill then workout where to go from there.

Not smart enough to implement a throttle map 😂
Since upgrading to 5.20 my web interface graphing and data logging doesn't see to work properly big delays between data points.

Wouldn't think that's related though, something else must have changed along the upgrade

I was assuming that was the case. I don't think I've changed anything, but my olimex does just hang out of the inverter wrapped in a bit of electrical tape. 😂

I've been doing some more testing this morning with very low throttle ramping. With the handbrake on and a value of 0.5, I stamp on the throttle and the car starts to slowly move forward overcoming the handbrake, then cuts out. Once above ~10 mph or so I can just leave in on the floor. Still no idea whats going on. Thankfully I don't have to setoff from a dead stop at full throttle daily.
Need to fix up logging to try get more of an idea what's going on.

Don't want to sound like a broken record but have you tried this viewtopic.php?p=49172#p49172, it fits all the symptoms (you can see in the plot it lets Iq get up to 460A despite a max throttle current of 300A being set and only shows up from standstill) and is relatively easy to test to see if it makes a difference.

In the latest build you can even do it like this

Code: Select all

#define QLIMIT_FREQUENCY FP_FROMINT(-1)
at the top of pwmgeneration-foc.cpp (see viewtopic.php?p=50233#p50233 for more details).

Right, not going to mention it again :)

I've been faffing more with OVMS + Home assistant and now Home Assistant is controlling the car charger based on the spare solar capacity I have :D

Done

Code: Select all

#define QLIMIT_FREQUENCY FP_FROMINT(-1)
#ifndef QLIMIT_FREQUENCY
#define QLIMIT_FREQUENCY FP_FROMINT(30)
#endif // QLIMIT_FREQUENCY
Still get it with the handbrake on and full throttle though. Will test on some driving still.

That's a shame, it seemed to fit all the symptoms so well. Worth a try though.

The Home Assistant/OVMS integration looks good!

Further update, still does it with the handbrake on. I've not managed to trip it without. Wife telling me off for testing it with family in car so will test further

Edit.
Thanks Pete, cannot get it to cut out unless I stamp on it with the handbrake on, which probably isn't a recognised method of driving anyway.

Guess I need to now increase throtcur and ramping until it starts cutting out again.

Can you plot heatsink temperature? At low frequency peak current must be conducted for a longer period, maybe that leads to local overheat?

I cannot, it seems to just hit 100 quickly and doesn't go higher. Not sure why. Think Damien said it just automatically derates anyway instead of cutting out

Ok, probably the lookup table ends at 100°C

Automatic HW derating sounds odd with AC drives as it isn't as simple as limiting the duty cycle.

No idea how it works, sure he said he's driven one without coolant and it just derated. Can't remember which car it was, I think he had Prius gen 3 and leaf motor. I could be wrong.

Seems to be working well now though with Pete's suggestion. Was the overmodulation on a branch? Need to do a build with the change Pete suggested above in.

I need to get ovms it appears. Looks miles easier than what i was planning on using. Love my home assistant. This make ovms start to make financial sense.

mine was £50 used. It's open source so someone (cough @rstevens81) would design a board based on the schematics.

Did the change seem to help or did the problem come back when you went back to the original throtcur and ramps? Did the change make any other difference to anything (low speed stuttering was mentioned as the reason for it being there in the first place, any sign of that)?

With your change at the original throtcur and ramping, it seems I cannot trip it if the handbrake is off. If I increase either I can get it to trip again.

I've not noticed any undesired issues so far, but I'm very happy with the car's performance from such a small motor.

Can't remember where you are in UK, but if I end up local and you want to have a go, that would be cool.

Got a few other issues on the car to sort out now :D

Looks like I've got a bit of movement between my motor any my CNC'd adaptor plate, so will be checking bolt tightness later and maybe looking at making a torque arm for it.

Should be picking up another GTE battery in a couple of weeks from Dom too to get me to 26.4 kwh so will be working on that. I think that's realistically the maximum I'm going to fit in this car without losing the entire boot space.

Need to workout why the logging isn't working even with the old esp8266 now.

Not sure it's the cause of the trips then.

That movement doesn't look great! The downside of more torque??

I'm in north Lincolnshire so not that far away at all. I'm struggling with energy levels at the moment though, so not getting out much, but maybe arrange something later in the year? It would be great to see your car.

Ahh, I've got a caravan at Trusthorpe so will be doing regular trips that way over the spring, summer and autumn.

I'm going to get it up on the stands a bit later, hopefully me not torquing the bolts down enough.

Doesn’t surprise me those things don’t stand up well to lots of torque, powerflex make a nice polyurethane replacement

Same thing happened a few years back to my leaf 2011. It took three seperate garages to find the cause of the horrendous torque steer it creates. Even nissan dealer missed it.

Thankfully control arms arent a mega expensive repair and are entirely mechanical (read doesnt require a computer to solve)

Put a new one on and its still got a fair bit of movement so need to look at the other mounts this weekend.

Would like to get it sorted before my 200 mile in a day adventure to collect a 3rd battery the weekend after
