so before I post the mandatory weigh in results, any guesses what the old vs new tailgates weigh?

Old - 50lbs
New - 7.2lbs

first the Old Gate weighed in at 47.8 pounds or 3.414286 stone [ahem] approximately

I'm pretty pleased with that guestimate Although surprised it's actually that heavy! You need a carbon fibre one for performance

Think 'merica mate and if it aint steel it aint real, lol that's how they used to make them in the 60s, remember my truck is 50 years old, and now here is the surprise

the new Gate weighs: 51.4 pounds or 34.2666667 coconuts

part of the old one just rusted away!

ha ha, actually I wish my old hard drive didn't crash and I had the pics to show you the 1/2" of bondo that was on that old tailgate that I had to literally use a hammer and a chisel to get off, and I am really shocked to see the quality of the new tailgate, I have been bad mouthing aftermarket classic car parts for years, and this is definitely going to put a damper on things at least for a while, it's really a nice piece

Nah, you'll need the extra weight for traction

a little shipping update on that master cylinder

so looks like we have a bad 2018 Honda CR-V brake master cylinder


Fun Level = 0

so I'm pretty sure my current braking is bad

the good news is the new used $80 dollar Honda CR-V master cylinder showed up last night and appears to be much more better

That looks a little better haha

meanwhile on this Two Steps Forward One Step Back update, we afixed the new used Honda CR-V master cylinder to the BOSCH iBooster and attempted to bench bleed it on the truck


so here's the general idea and you is supposed to do this in a vice, with American style master cylinders, anyway that's where that clear line red fitting kit is from

Got a vacuum bleeder? Or a pressure bleeder? I know it shouldn't be needed, but makes things a lot easier, especially when the system's dry.

so while we wait for a sucker I mean a friend to come over to help me bleed the brakes for the upteenth and hopefully final time, The Greg decided to keep busy and plumb the Lexus GS450h transmission fluid lines to the 1971 Chevy stock radiator (as it has provisions for an automagical transmission cooler) using two 90° 6AN fittings and some 3/8th black rubber hoses




and I am totally ignoring this possible interference issue

so we got updates and we got questions, first yes I am working on a bit of this (brakes) and a bit of that (cooling / radiator) it's just how these projects go as you hit a wall on something and or are waiting on parts, or FRIENDS to show up and help you bleed the brakes

so I decided to replace that radiator with a brand new one, this solved one problem and helped with another, first I went down to a single core cause the old one was to thick being a dual core and never fit perfectly on the bottom and we just can't have that here at Good Enuff Garage

second, the new rad takes care of the bottom outlet interference problem as it has a much shorter snout as well as not as big inlets and outlets as the old rad did


yes our daughter little Mazda 3 was specifically designed to transport our Chevy truck parts

mandatory stare and compare of the old rad and the new rad

new rad installinated

so now we have reached the plumbing, heater hose size, coupler, adapter, reducer hell portion of the build, you see we in America like to design our radiators with the largest inlets and outlets known to men and women, and the electrical components (inverters, dc-dc converters, chargers, water pumpulators, and transmissionisters) all like to use small ones, more on this later

essentially what we face is that we can no longer plumb with radiator hoses ( yes 1-3/4" or 1-1/2 or my personal favorite 1-5/16" that's a nice and even 33 millimeter for you non Standardizer type) but instead must plumb with heater core hoses ( 3/4" and or 5/8" )


Tezla water pump (yes with a "z") uses a 3/4" standard American heater hose

it needs to attach to the radiator outlet which is lets just say way bigger ( 1-9/16ths for those of you keeping track at home)

now the fun continues as the 3/4" hose from the Tezla water pump has to now mate with the 5/8" Lexus inverter inlet, joy


well at least the Lexus inverter 5/8" outlet matches the Lexus transmission 5/8" outlet so they got daisy chained fairly easily, which then only left the 5/8" Lexus transmission outlet having to couple with this 1-5/16" already stepped down radiator inlet

so yeah, I hope you followed all that, as there may be a Quiz !

When you say "fully depressed" is that with the pedal on the floor when bleeding or when it's bleed and you push as hard as you can?
