Will get the E license plate in two weeks.
Very nice!
Why do you need E licence plate? Do you get any benefit on parking/charging because of it?

Thank you
Yes in Kassel you can park for free with E plate. Not that I go there often, but still. Plus it proves that my little E- isn't just a fake
That said plugin hybrids also get the E plate

I am going to need that text you have under my licence plate too. Is it a sticker on the frame?
I have been thinking about some openinverter.org stickers for some time. Is it something someone is doing allready? Stickers could be nice product to send in a letter mail for a fixed price that would make some level support in price too.

I'm interested in some OpenInverter stickers too (car is finally running).
The text is just their standard font, openinverter logo is attached. It says "Ein OPENINVERTER.ORG Elektro Umbau" equivalent to "An OPENINVERTER.ORG Electric Conversion"
I can also get some more printed and put them on the shop, what do you think?

Great idea... can you also add some T-Shirts to the shop?

Yes I will look into that
Obviously that would say "Building sine waves since 2008"
Or it could say "Demystifying EV technology (since 2008)"
What do you think?

I like "Building sine waves since 2008" and maybe a version in German

Cool, didn't know they were available that easy.
As Kevin stated, maybe a version in german. Ein, zwei, dreiphasig..
German stickers fits nicely for little OEM look in our german cars..

I see what you did there.

Final step done - E-Kennzeichen
Almost a bit boring with nothing left to do I will wrap the damaged chrome grill in blue. Maybe I will fit an android "radio" like Shane.

Congrats Johannes,
It must be great to see that E plate as evidence of all the hard work.
I have yet to use the "radio" for anything other than playing with settings on the inverter and watching plots of data....but it's great for that

I have a Blaupunkt Philadelphia 835 (from Polo) that might do the job... Pm me if you're interested

I made a playlist of all Touran related videos:
Thanks, will see what a Blaupunkt Philadelphia is and might get back to you
EDIT: checked the Blaupunkt. While it would certainly be an improvment it does not have Wifi, so I won't be able to tap into the inverter or VCU. Thanks anyway!

A bit off topic, but putting a wifi dongle on a USB aux would not get a connection?

It would rather surprise me, is there even a browser on it?
Today I worked on cruise control. Basically implemented the resume function and added a ramp. So when you press "+" or "-" or resume, it actually ramps up or down the speed at a defined rate. Much smoother operation now.
See stm32-car project for details

Started looking into the noisy DC/DC converter issue (noisy as in fan vibration). I removed the fan and ran it, it really vibrates a lot. Most be cheap and has quite some run out. So have ordered a Papst replacement fan.
Also the shaft coupler vibrates at around 3000rpm on regen. I think I will eventually replace it with a solid construction (no claw coupling).

How much effort is to take everything apart to get to the coupler? I'd imagine it's a fair bit huh

Oh yes indeed. Will probably tackle this in fall/winter so I can start out with a more silent car next spring.
Today I tried to convince my wife that you can go on long trips with an EV. Here is what happened:
I cruised on A7 at 120km/h . It's very hilly around Kassel (Germans know this as Kasseler Berge). So consumption was rather high at 21 kWh/100km. Sure enough the SoC needle dropped quite fast and I got off to a fast charger. There was already a Porsche Taycan charging there so charging speed dropped to 25kW. So we quickly took dog for a walk and went to the next fast charger. Arrived there with my glorious collection of RFID cards only to read "please use the app".
But I didn't bring a smart phone.
Called service. They started the charging session which quit after 5s: charger fault.
Ok I thought, this is a small problem as we still had enough juice to at least reach an AC charger and I had brought the 11kW charger.
So got back in, put the key in ignition and..... it wouldn't turn. No matter how hard I tried and how much I wiggled - nothing.
A worker lent me a bottle of WD40, no good. He said he knew his way around VW and disassembled the steering wheel But he couldn't fix the issue.
Finally we decided to get a flatbed truck. They bring you to the nearest garage by default. "But sir, this car is a bit special, it's converted to electric". Of course I had to pop the hood and let him take pictures. And we decided to rather bring the car back come. On Diesel power
So here I am back home and learning some lock picking. Who thought that in a home brew EV the god damn key mechanism would ruin your trip
Wife convincing will need another go

You can't make this up!
Sorry to hear this happened, but in retrospect quite humorous!
Lesson: always bring cell phone and clearly WD-40

Oh dear, that must have been really frustrating but at least it was an OEM part that failed and nothing EV related.
