Hi,
i'm new here and i hope this is the right place to post a short introduction.
My Name is Markus. I live in germany in the Odenwald and i have the idea to convert a BMW F11. The car ist in good condition with almost new TÜV and many new parts, but it had an engine failure due to a spun rod bearing. Selling in this condition is no option (best offer 1600 euros). An overhauled engine with guarantee costs between 5000 and 8000 euros, when I make the swap of the engine by my self. In that moment I saw the video from Johannes Touran and the idea was born.
I'm a Dipl.-Ing. in electonic engineering and work as Energy consultant for residential buildings. I'm fixing my cars as a hobby since my first VW Beetle.
I have almost two years for the conversion, because I have a leased iX1 (my first EV an I love it) since September for two years. In the best case the F11 is ready for departure, when I give the iX1 back to the dealer.
I'm so happy, that I found this forum.

Hello, just joined.
I'm looking to start a project repurposing a prius inverter, probably gen 2 since they are most available, to use as an inverter in my prius, converting 200V battery DC to 120V 60Hz AC, and probably split phase 220V AC to run general appliances, tools, or maybe even a welder. I think it'd be cool to have the ultimate power source on wheels, since I'm often traveling and hanging out with people that like building stuff. I'm headed to the junk yard today to grab some cables and an inverter from some abandoned prius.
I'm hoping to figure out how to used openinverter to pull it off, I saw some projects on here that have done something like this, and I want to follow in those foot steps.

I'm a little confused on the different hardware available to run openinverter, https://openinverter.org/wiki/Main_Board_Version_3 seems to be the newest version? There is a device I saw johu using, I think it's this https://openinverter.org/wiki/Toyota_Pr ... Controller but I can't find any documentation to build it, just documents for an older version from damien maguire https://github.com/damienmaguire/Prius-Gen-2-Inverter
but yeah, hopefully I can throw some parts together and have some fun!

yes there is a specialized Prius controller but I didn't restock it as I only sold 5 a year or so. It's done in eagle and you can find it here https://github.com/jsphuebner/inverter-hardware

Oh, I looked in that repo and didn't even notice the prius gen 2 files. Looks like you have gerber, BOM, and a pdf diagram for the prius board, are there eagle files also?johu wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2026 7:09 am you can find it here https://github.com/jsphuebner/inverter-hardware
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
Just picked up the inverter yesterday, and dusted it off today. I'm excited to work on this project. Will probably need to harvest some more intact cabling, but that's what I've got for now. Getting the MG2 power cable is tough, I think you have to remove the transmission and engine block from the body to disconnect it.
