Where to buy SDU Molex housing?

Post by Johannes.l »

Hi! Does anyone know where to buy or if you can buy the plastic housing, for the mx150 20 pin, connected to to Small model s motor? Mine has been very brittle and was already a bit damaged when I got the motor. But I don't know what to search for.

Thanks!
/Johannes

Well yes they might have but I don't know what part number I'm gonna search for. I've been looking around but haven't found this one exactly.

Okay quickly looking on molexs site, 3480____ are the right angle pcb mount connectors, there are 4 different key types. I’d just compare the keying of yours with the keying options. The one that match’s is it. now, there are a light grey, dark grey and 2 black.

That potentially narrows it down to 2 part numbers. 34802001 and 34802004. But it could be the other two, being Elon is a bit of a troll ..

It's 'Keying B' type, so if it's a male housing it's Molex part 33482-2102. If it's a male header (PCB mount) it's Molex part 34830-2002. If you go to Molex and search these then click on the 3D viewer you'll see the keyway types match yours where it's broken. The stock pictures on Molex datasheets are useless and don't show that keying difference. Because you haven't shown the back of your connector I can't say if it a housing or a header type - from the angle you show it could be either. Check the 3D views and you will see, then search. If it's the housing type then I think Mouser said they will be available April 7th.

I might only be stupid but I need a vertical one and not a right angled. Se the pictures below. I can only find the ones that you said but they doesn't seem to fit.

Thanks anyway!

Looks like a panel mount housing but what's going into the back of it? The way you describe it being 'straight not right angle' sounds like you're saying it is PCB mount at the back but without pics how can we tell?

It might be proprietary for Tesla, made by Molex? I wonder if you can send your pic to Molex and maybe they will help? You never know your luck ...

Usually Molex has part numbers etched on the side of connector. You need to look with LED light at correct angle.

Okay so that looks like a panel mount then, not the pcb mounted

The housing clips into the Tesla casting so I reckon that's made just for Tesla. The listed Molex panel mount ones don't do that and they max out at 12-pin, no 20-pin panel mount version listed. I reckon your best bet is to send a pic to Molex and pray that a good person there sends you the housing! Sometimes good people do good things, mostly they just toe the company line however...

Hello, did you find any more information on this? I also have a broken connector that I need to replace.

Maybe it's time to draw it up and 3D print it?

I was about to email Molex but you needed a company organisation number to do that so I just left it at that. Mine still works but it's very brittle so it might brake completely.

It shouldn't be to hard to 3d print it if you have the experience in CAD and a 3d printer, both which I don't have at the moment haha. I would be able to pay a small sum though if someone else tried.
