Using a DC-DC to simulate a solar cell for MPP tracking

Post by Age »

I had the following thought last night while I hat to care for my sick children. First of all: I'm not able to contribute anything, but I like the idea 😉

Has anyone ever tried to generate the characteristic curve of a solar cell with a microcontroller and, for example, a Prius DC-DC?

Wouldn't it be possible to use the DC input from a grid inverter in this way. For example to implement V2H via Chademo.

The controller would have to tell the inverter how much power is required to be able to achieve a power of 0W at the house transfer point. This power would have to be transferred to the inverter as MPP.

That would be a fairly lossy way of achieving that ;)
Better find an inverter with variable output power, like here: viewtopic.php?t=2322

A Prius inverter and STM32 control board should be able to perform zero export control with wired sensors.

An off the shelf PV inverter that doesn't support zero export probably won't work too well for zero export, zero export needs fast response on the order of milliseconds or less.
My first solar power system helped Naomi Wu, now I want to do even more with DIY solar.

My zero export controller is limited by the 1s update rate of my energy meter. It does show on transients such as high power loads being switched or fast moving clouds. But that is only a small fraction of time. In steady state it works well
