EVBMW Announcement June 2021

Post by Jack Bauer »

Just want to let folks know that there are some big changes to the EVBMW webshop :
https://www.evbmw.com/index.php/evbmw-webshop

I have removed a lot of boards and items and consolidated partial boards and kits. Also the ZombieVerter VCU is now available for sale:)

My primary reason for this is that over the next few months (possibly a full year!) I will be moving house. This has come about rather suddenly so I need to dedicate a lot of my time and energy to this process but also continue to be able to make an income from board sales.

So I have settled upon a sort of hybrid between bare boards and kits :

Boards are now all supplied fully programmed.
Any hard to find connectors (e.g. 50 way jst on prius) are included.
Programmed wifi modules are included.
Easy to find connectors are now no longer included.
A connector BOM is now present with details of the required parts on the webshop items.

As within the next few weeks I'll be breaking down the workshop and realisticly won't be up and running for at least a year this means I need to work out of boxes and reduce inventory. The upside for folks is I can drop prices to reflect the missing bits. I hope this is understandable.

In the meantime I'd be grateful if a few people could look over the webshop items and let me know where I've messed up (not if, where!).

I'll also ask folks to PLEASE update wikis and try to capture as much information as possible and make it available to others.

Please rest assured anyone who has outstanding orders as of today will receive their full kits as ordered.

Moving house, hopefully for good-ish reasons. Either way good luck with the move. Moving is underrated as a stressful thing, I think it's the 4th most stressful thing most people expect to go through in their lives. Wish I was on the correct continent to help. One of my favorite things is getting a new shop up and running, almost better than even just using a new shop.

I'm a fan of consolidation, and your plan sounds good, I think it's what most people would want anyway so there's hardly even a loss of convenience. Everyone is going to struggle finding the weird connectors, no one will struggle finding the easy ones. I especially like the consolidation of the 3 categories of Toyota boards, etc. Just tidier in general.

On the webshop:

1 - Probably not new, but on the Tesla description, it writes, but doesn't link, to "https://openinverter.org/shop/" for the S/X boards.

2 - Correction, it seems almost none of the URLs are hyperlinked. Not to your Github, not to youtube, (except the one embed), etc. They're just text. A few are, but most aren't.

3 - No more Prius Gen 2? (I think been a while anyway). Johannes does sell his Gen 2 board. Just doublechecking.

4 - No more Leaf stuff? Just doublechecking.

5 - No more Bargain Bin or Misc Boards, which, I think you probably weren't selling much of anyway.

...

All in all looks good 'cept for the lack of hyperlinking 90% of the URLs in the descriptions.

Not a new problem, but the text on the webshop I've always thought could be better. Would you appreciate help rewriting them to be more flowery and handholdy as to what they are and who would make use of them? I could do that.

If it makes you feel better, you don't need €600,000 for a house in our area, more like a million!

We should start a go-fund-me for Damien's soon Robaxacet regime.

Much as it's stressful and hard work to move, there's a real comfort in having all of your shit in the same pile again, no more being stretched across 2 locations.

Last days of the move folks. Again, can I please ask for a little forbearance with shipping times on orders. Hope to have a minimal workbench up and running a a week or two and commence shipping again. Thanks.

I'm twitching seeing all that diagnostic equipment, beholden to the water retention ability of that steel roofing, with visible daylight coming through not far away, and it raining 362 days a year there.

That said, one of my favorite things is watching someone's shop come together.

Mmmm.....
Corrugated steel shed - warm and toasty in the summer and chilly in the winter.
Any chance of having some insulating foam sprayed onto it?

Just curious if some of the EVBMW orders placed during the time of the move are still waiting for handling and shipping?

I ordered a Zombieboard on March 18th and haven't still got it. No rush though, since I have had more than enough projects on my hands even without it :)

Send me an email with your order number and I'll check. Still working through the backlog and the chip shortage nonsense.
