Help me identify the motor, please...

Post by Jan »

I found this motor connected to a BorgWarner gearbox. It has no nameplate or any markings. Can anyone help me identify the motor?

It seems like ACIM motor from MesDea? Can you photo any number on the motor or gearbox?
Maybe it is Ansaldo???

1. I would recommend first to take the motor off gearbox and try to spin it by hand. Normaly ACIM motor doesnt have any resistance and will spin. PMSM motors have cogging and can resist rotating.
If you can rotate motor by hand and there is no or small resistance, you can do another test. While motor is spinning ask someone to join 2 adjacent phase cables. If motor is PMSM it WILL stop immediately.

2. Then you go and see what kind of encoder it has in the back. Or is it resolver...
