Nissan Leaf EM61 resolver wiring

Post by arber333 »

Several times I have been asked for Leaf motor wire colour.
This is my old post from when i tried to get data on my Leaf motor.
It shows resolver wire colour and their application.
To be clear this is valid for EM61 motor. The round one...

COSINE NEGATIVE: YELLOW
COSINE POSITIVE: BLUE
SINE NEGATIVE: BLACK
SINE POSITIVE: RED

EXCITE:POSITIVE (EX): WHITE
EXCITE NEGATIVE (!EX): GREEN

Wires in pair should be twisted to cancel out EMI.

Hello I have a GEN 3 Prius inverter with the EM61. My question is does , Sin - and Cos - twist 'together' to a single ground potential as seen in the FOC tuning video? Or does sin- go to encoder A and Cos - go to encoder b as stated in on WIKI for the GEN3 Ampseal conn pinout guide. I tried both ways and I am unable to get a resolver angle reading on the plot. Thank you in advance.

MY current resolver wiring is as follow (According to Ampseal pinout for GEN 3 Prius inverter)
PIN 17 (ground)- Connects to EM61 SIN- (BLK) and COS-(yellow)
PIN 18 (resolver SIN) - connects to EM61 Sine + (RED)
PIN 19(resolver COS) - connects to EM61 COS + (BLUE)
PIN20(resolver EXC) - connects to EM61 Excite + (white)
PIN21 (ground) - connects to EM61 Excite - (green)

I also tired
PIN15 (encoder chan A) - Connects to EM61 SIN- (BLK)
PIN16 (encoder chan B)- Connects to EM61 COS- (Yellow)
PIN 18 (resolver SIN) - connects to EM61 Sine + (RED)
PIN 19(resolver COS) - connects to EM61 COS + (BLUE)
PIN20(resolver EXC) - connects to EM61 Excite + (white)
PIN21 (ground) - connects to EM61 Excite - (green)

Neither produced a angle plot am i missing something?

Was sent another picture today.

Please check with a simple multimeter in AC mode: exciter voltage about 5V AC, return voltages between 0 and 1V depending on rotor position.

Does someone have a part number for the connector that goes in the socket?

It looks like this on the EM57.

It looks similar to some Yazaki plugs that they also use for A/C and various other peripherals

Thanks johu, I have looked high and low to find that plug and I believe this is the correct part:

I had to bodge something up using molex connectors so these will be a huge improvement.
I have ordered a few and will report back once they arrive.

Plugs arrived from the UK today and I can confirm this part is correct for the EM57 motor and certainly looks identical to the EM61 part.
