How to tighten Loose Round Battery Box connector (12V B24)?

Post by janosch »

Hi,

one of our main contactors didn't switch reliably (big no no!).

Spent all day yesterday debugging, but finally realised the grey connector hasn't got a very solid connection anymore.
When wiggling it around resistance for a pair goes from 30 Ohm to Open Line and back down.

I know Dala made a new socket, but not sure if that will help here, we are just printing one.

Anyone got experience with this?
How do we make it tight again?

Wow I've never seen the Yazaki connectors go bad!

Can you post some high def pictures of both ends? My simple fix proposal would be to add some copper stranding into the pin that is misbehaving, that should force the connection to become tight. But that is a temporary fix that only works reliably on a connector that doesn't get disconnected often.

Curious, has this been taken apart many times?

A few times, but not excessively so.

Say 50 times? Not in the hundreds or thousands I would think.

HD pictures attached.

The Vehicle side connector certainly has seen better days.
I can see damage on 36, 3, 5.

And it looks like 17 might have slipped backwards which might be our culprit here.

Yes, I am also surprised, because I measured it on the previous vehicle and the connection of the B24 were always rock solid.
