Beginning of the Beginning of the Beginning

Post by HJ47 »

New Project currently emerging from the aspiration phase.

This: [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAQGfRh ... 1v&index=4 ] ....but not Tesla.

Just setting up the "Lab" part of project and I have been comparing the boards on the Shop Page

The contenders are
Community edition.
Mini Brainboard.

Would anyone have observations to make on the comparing the two form factors (with regards to ease of use in a development/learning context). I am drawn to the Mini Brainboard as the input/output on the ends of the boards make sense for ease of use (ie confusion control).

Are the differences between the boards in layout only?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Eyeball what you suspect you'll fit for batteries first. If you can't fit a lot, then that might affect what you'll use for a motor.

Then pick your motor.

Then choose how you're going to control the power. For some this will be obvious, for others, you'll have some choices.

You're kinda starting at step 3. The new meta is generally re-using salvaged OEM inverters, not building the inverter from scratch like Johannes had to back in the day.

So which are the easiest motors to start with?
I like the I3, but it seems hard to work with the inverter.

The prius looks nice as well, but which are the projects further ahead?

Thanks

Leaf motor is pretty well established and probably the easiest to setup with a zombieverter, comes with 3 different inverter sizes for different power too (80kw, 110kw and 160kw. All use the same motor)

Is it possible to use the leaf inverter at all? or it is just easier to get the zombieverter?

The Zombieverter isn’t an inverter, it’s a controller for various inverters (and drivetrains), including the leaf inverter.
