Sync issue? Front motor/generator

Post by bobby_come_lately »

@Bigpie has just been over and we've been doing some testing of my car. Setup is Gen 3 inverter, EVBMW board, and front motor (generator) from the Outlander. Running latest (5.12R) FOC firmware.

The car runs fine with fairly low settings - throtramp 50 and throtcur 3.5. But if I start to increase throtcur I get cutouts. Not when starting off, but when speed gets up to 20-25 mph. The motor seems to lose sync, and starts to rattle delivering no power until it is forced to stop. Then the car runs fine again (without turning the inverter off).

I'm wondering if this is a sync issue? And if so, if there's anything to do about it. I know there's no way to reliably set syncadv at the moment but we did a bit of fairly random testing. Is it worth doing a more systematic trial of syncadv numbers?

Any other suggestions welcome (FYI I don't believe there is a cooling issue any more, as I originally had with the Prius inverter).
