Nissan Leaf PDM relays

Post by johu »

I will likely swap my charge port relays for the Leaf PDM ones, part number Omron G9EA-1-NP

One relay by itself would draw 7 W and I think pissing away 14W for the relays is a bit much. I do have my RC economizer in place and was just going to test it on my bench, when I discovered the magic:

On top of the relays sits a PCB and I never payed much attention to it. Turns out when you feed 12V to pin 1 and GND to pin 2 it actually sequences AND economizes the relays for a total draw of 3W !

So definitely keep that PCB when raiding the PDM.

100Amp Carry current for 10min. That's 40kw right? Am I missing something?

Hmm, only found the data sheet for the G9EA-1-B and G9EA-1-B-CA but not the G9EA-1-NP. the B-CA has a max carry current of 150A for 10 minutes. The 1-B has 100A.

Strange, given the fact the BMS allows 70 kW at low SoC (equally the 24, 30 and 40 kWh BMS). At 350V that would be 200A on a capable charger. Scary! Probably not a problem in practise as most chargers only output between 100A and 125A. I guess I should still limit maximum charging current to 150A or so.
